A Visit to The Pickled Egg

Post by mickthemaverick »

As I invited everyone to join me for a celebratory beer this evening I thought a new thread would stop us clogging up POTD or The Jukebox thread with drinking revellry. I am celebrating my points received this morning and so I have enlisted the help of my local brewery:

who offer a wide range of tipples so I invite you to choose your beer and drink to the health of the FCF!!:

I'll start with a pint of Country seeing as I'm a Country Boy at heart Mick. That unlikely celebrity Jack Hargreaves and the series of the same name were big favourites of mine.

I keep meaning to go and revisit location of the old village hall where he recorded the earlier series. It's not a million miles from here and is a nice run out in the hairdryer :-)

We went looking for his place in the New Forest when he was presenting 'How' with Fred Dineage but to no avail. Either we were given duff information or he didn't really live there!! :?

Looking up Mac's to get a bigger pic or some tasting notes on Country, up popped Mac's from New Zealand, a well known Craft Brewery Based in Nelson (South Island I think and home of a car museum if I recall right). It was purchased in 1980 by former All Black rugby player and farmer Terry McCashin and his wife Beverley, and they kicked off craft brewing in NZ.

They do a nice Ginger beer

Our local brewery discovered that the What3words location for their brewery was 'hence.mute.lizards', so they've embarked on a series of brews using that title :-D

At the bottom of that page is their Aegir - which I have to ration as I find it Oh! so nice 8-)

I must admit I was a trifle bemused when I looked up the website to start the thread. I have always known the brewers as McMullen's so I was surprised to see that they seem to have adopted the 'Mac's' trademark now which I feel is wrong considering they are a 'Mc' not a 'Mac' to begin with!! Makes me wonder if that is trying to cash in on the generic popularity of 'Mac's' in various other places!! :)

I think it's clear that the Langham's range will warrant a trip down to bobins for an evening's sampling the next time we need a celebration!! :-D
