Citroen DS3 EML light P00BC

Post by DP1990 »

I'm wondering if any of you fine people could help me. I have a 15 plate Citroen DS3 BlueHDi 1.6, 37K'ish on the clock with FSH and I keep getting the EML and a message saying "Engine Fault: Repair Needed" come up. It only comes on whilst using engine braking at around 3000-3500 RPM and is fine whilst under power at any RPM or off the power at any RPM below the aforementioned. It's been doing this since we bought the car 2 months ago and it's been back to the dealer several times to have bits and bobs done but it still keeps happening. The fault code is P00BC which a quick Google search shows is *usually* a problem with the MAF sensor (I say usually as I've had a Renault Scenic that displayed an injector fault that actually turned out to be a faulty camshaft position sensor)

So far we have had the boost pressure sensor on the turbo changed, the fuel filter changed and more recently the entire turbo charger changed but alas the problem continues. I have mentioned the MAF sensor to them twice but they haven't changed it and have now sent the car to an auto electrician in case there is a wiring fault (I'm currently the unproud driver of the worst courtesy car in the world and just want my DS3 back!)

Does anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this? The error code mentioned above is the only one that comes up

On other models of Citroen (C5 and C6 with the V6 HDI), they flag MAF faults when it's actually the EGR valve that's knackered.

OK, so I've just got the car back from the garage and not even a mile down the road the EML has come on again. This time, the auto electrician they sent it to apparently found an air leak on the manifold, rectified it and test drove it with no problems (although considering I dropped it off with half a tank and it came back with the light on I think "test thrashed it" would be a more appropriate phrase)

Now obviously me telling the garage to check the EGR valve or the MAF sensor etc is pointless as although I'm training to be a mechanic, I don't have that little piece of paper yet that shows I am one so therefore my suggestions will be ignored

Does anyone have any other suggestions it could be as I'm half tempted to see if I can get it fixed myself and then invoice them for it

Pop up your VIN and I’ll see how that code relates to your vehicle.

Ok, so I don't have the specific fault as it relates to this model, as you have a Bosch Injection System, but on a later C5 X7 with this fault on a Delphi injection syste it relates to:

Induction circuit: Air flow lower than the theoretical air flow, legislative threshold. The measured air flow is less than the theoretical flow by 10 % for 25s.

Triggering Conditions:
  • The following conditions have to be met
  • Engine running
  • Engine speed between 1150 and 4500 rpm
  • Coolant temperature above 40°C
  • Engine torque zero
  • Turbo pressure greater than 800 mbar
  • EGR recirculation valve flap in the maximum position at 5 %
Conditions for Fault to go: The following conditions have to be met
  • - After switching the ignition off and then back on
  • Driving with the engine hot for 5 minutes, with decelerations longer than 10 seconds
The back up mode will result in no forced particle filter regenerations (only using the diagnostic tool) - normal regenerations will take place. Secondly, the system will use of a default value for the flow of exhaust gas.

Possible complaints:
  • Lack of power
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
  • Engine hesitating, cutting out
  • Activation of the cruise control / speed limiter function impossible
  • Starting problem
  • Malfunctioning of the engine when idling
  • Deactivation or switching off of the cruise control/speed limiter function
  • Growling/whirring/booming
  • Banging/knocking/creaking
  • Crackling / Sputtering / Knocking
  • Whistling and whining/hissing/rushing of air
  • Fluid leak/smells (diesel fuel, oil, etc.)
Possible suspect areas and don't laugh....
  • Inlet air entry pressure and temperature sensor
  • Air cleaner
  • Air line
  • Turbocharged air cooler
  • Turbocharger
  • Turbocharger position copy sensor
  • Oil vapours recycling pipe
  • Exhaust gas recirculation valve
  • EGR valve circuit
  • Air inlet manifold
  • Air flow sensor
  • Connectors
  • Electrical harnesses
  • Air mixer
  • Exhaust manifold
  • Exhaust line
  • Particle filter
:rofl2:

But - this is the P00BC fault for a late Citroen C5 X7 - but I suspect it will be similar.

If you also have fault code P02ED along with P00BC, then there is a Technical Service Bulletin for it.
