Citroen 1.9TD Front Sphere Pressure

Post by Rhothgar »

Just got off phone from AEP. I’m trying to beat hero 5pm deadline for delivery tomorrow.

They asked me which ones I need. They have 3 which seem to be 50, 55 or 70 bar.

Any ideas chaps?

Depends on the vehicle you have. VIN would help - I don't have it for your 1.9TD

I can tell you the last few digits but just in case it doesn’t obfuscate it this is a Frankenstein VIN.

First part is from my N reg 1.9TD SX

VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

The last eight are correct for the M reg. I assume the first lot are the same. I hope so as I won’t be able to find the log book easily.

Front corner sphere pressure for this VIN is 55 Bar. Official revised part number is: 1638043280 (£118.00) or 1638379180 (£39.94) for the cheaper version, direct from Citroen.

The cheaper option from Citroen is interesting.

Are they as bad as Amtec?

Don’t want to break the bank but the AEP ones are £37.80 inclusive and free shipping. Guessing the Citroen price is ex-VAT.

Do you, or anyone else, have experience of the cheapo Citroen ones compared to the AEP ones?

Also, if I fit 70 bar would that make suspension more comfy?

I think not necessarily so because the bore diameter is what translates into more fluid transfer from memory and hence bouncier ride.

I may be wrong.

VAT inclusive :-D

I would leave the sphere pressures as they are. This is the recommended pressures for this vehicle with this suspension variation and this engine & chassis.

Second that. If there is a problem with suspension, fit exactly the original spec spheres, and go from there. It is possible to use a slightly non-standard set up, but only after the system has been checked out and evaluated with the factory-spec set-up.

I always used the standard 55 bar ones, but this time I tried the 70 bars. Ride is more floaty , more confortable , but slightly more body roll in corners. I like it this way since I dont drive too fast. But may not suit all, especially those looking for good handling.

If think the only problem is the front spheres.

I would dearly love a softer ride but I am going to go with yours and Marc's recommendation for now.

I have put out a request for a Technosir on loan on the forum but no-one has bitten yet on that idea. I could always increase the pressure once I know everything is good.

I emailed Technosir on Sunday but so far no response about shipping to UK!

Well! You wouldn't believe the day I've had.

Alternator rebuilt and ready to be fitted to S2 Xantia.

My mother has been diagnosed with Cancer.

Ordered 2 new spheres for the S1 which are turning up tomorrow from AEP then head gasket went on S1 as I turned up to a time trial.

Other than that, it was an almost reasonable day.

I may be posting the S1 in the For Sale section as a potential heads up for someone as a project car rather than scrap it. Two owners from new. Only 100600 miles.

I'll get the head off in the coming weeks but I'll put people on notice of sale just to see if there is any genuine interest when I get the time to do another post.

Cheers all.

Managed to get the alternator back on the S2 yesterday. Ran it for a good half hour. No lights on dash.

Today. The Engine Management Light has come on and the red got in the temperature gauge. I’ll get it on the Lexia if I get back. 😭

P1138 Temp Fault.

I’ll have to wait for it to manifest itself proper but engine was running on slightly. So faulty stop signal perhaps to fuel pressure regulator.

Off on a tangent.

Do Citroen still sell top mounts?

If so, what price is 5271 E4 and 5271 F6 please? I’m assuming that right means offside in the strut mount table otherwise I need the left one.

My offside one looks ready to collapse. Lots of daylight when putting alternator back in S2
