I posted a celebratory picture on Picture of the Day the other day for my 6700th post. I have also posted a fair number since then but today my post count is showing as 6664? That implies some have gone missing! Any ideas? It matters to me as my continual posting record I keep is now out of sync it would appear??
For reference it appears I am not the only one affected. The last record I logged on 25/07/21 was:

Deleted posts are not usually actually deleted, just hidden from view and can be restored but a quick look hasn't revealed anything untoward.
Even Jim has been affected without posting for the last couple of months, he is now showing as 43889 when he has been on 44009 since his last activity!

Not sure I follow. I don't keep track of my post count if that is what you mean.
I wouldn't know if any of my posts were gone either, I don't normally revisit them - they are usually forgotten within minutes.
My profile shows I currently have a 'score' of 11,668. This means that 76 posts have gone 'missing'.

I have listed users and their post counts on 25th above and there are many who have lost. In Jim's case his post count has dropped by 120 , mine by 35 from what it was on that date but I have posted a fair number since then so the actual loss is greater.

The issue that you have noticed is due to the way the forum counts posts. It should not have affected the availability of any existing posts.
The forum keeps a post counter for each user, which is incremented each time a user makes a post and decremented when a post is deleted. There are some moderator actions which manipulate the counter. The forum software can also calculate the number of user posts by querying the database and counting the number of actual existing posts by a user. The two counts can get out of synchronisation, sometime due to bugs in the forum software, and sometimes due to software crashes or administrative actions that interrupt a post that is in the process of being put into the database.
There is a tool for forum administrators that forces the counts for all users to be synchronised to the current contents of the database, and I recently ran that procedure, for the first time in at least 5 years. This is what has caused the reported posts per user to suddenly drop. I don't expect that the post counts will diverge significantly in the future, as more recent software versions are better in this regard.
Sorry to have caused any stress with this, but it had to happen at some point.
Ok thanks Mike now I understand. I'm guessing then, that the posts we are now short of were probably ones that have been purged from the Sale or Wanted over the last couple of years during which period the database hasn't been synced with the tool. In which case I will not repost a 6700 car as it was correctly posted at the time. I'll run on from there with my next milestone being 6800 on the counter, Thanks for the clarification.
