I like that idea Gibbo though I do have reason to believe it is a lot older than tramlines!!

I presume we have landed in St Albans, and you may suspect a Roman connection? Verulamium Park the location?mickthemaverick wrote: ↑29 Jul 2021, 20:54 Just got home from dinner and pleased to see some effort has been going on No its not Wheathamstead, you need to head SSW from there to a much larger place!! Yes, H.Potter's departure platform, although a ticket barrier a tad unconventional.mickthemaverick wrote: ↑29 Jul 2021, 21:04Sorry Chris I don't follow that? Harry Potter connection maybe? (I'm not a fan!)
Maybe just the remains of one of the many rail-side fence posts that were made from rail steel?
A friend of mine had a 4" length of line, cut off a longer length, by hand, with a hacksaw blade (with no handle) by a couple of permanent way workers stuck in a lineside shed for two days, trying to keep out of driving rain.

Re: Whatsthisthen?
Spot on Neil, the 'rock' is embedded in the ground alongside the lake, opposite part of the old roman wall. The composition looks very similar to the stones in the wall but there is no metal visible actually in that part of the wall. I wonder if it is part of an old gate hinge or latch or similar despite the 'rail like' cross section?NewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑29 Jul 2021, 22:01I presume we have landed in St Albans, and you may suspect a Roman connection? I'll throw my hat in the ring and say it looks like a marker post for a trail?
Old railway line maybe hence the rail embedded rather than the typically Brass ones in towns.

I've just been around Verulamium Park on a walk.... Yes it looks like a splodge of mortar and flint rubble foundation and some ironmongery as you suggest. The walker on my vid got very close to a Heron on the bridge! Vid starts at that moment!

Torrential rain while out walking with unsuitable clothing, so drying out the clothes (and shoes) with the heater on full.

Re: Whatsthisthen?
That'll do for me James! I was walking back to the car from the grandstand to get the umbrella as the clouds looked ominous!! Needless to say I didn't make it in time - got absolutely drenched, had to wring out my shirt before I put it there to dry!! 10 minutes with climate control on 32 and fans on full and it was bone dry!! It had also stopped raining so I dressed, grabbed the brolly and rejoined Bob in the grandstand. The irony of the whole thing was that Bob had been going to go to Thruxton on his bike but bottled it on Saturday and asked me to pick him up to keep him dry!! I did and he stayed in the stand nice and dry and I got soaked instead!!Hell Razor5543 wrote: ↑02 Aug 2021, 16:08 Torrential rain while out walking with unsuitable clothing, so drying out the clothes (and shoes) with the heater on full.

I just need to find a few flat paving slabs now to avoid the risk of using the iron!!

Lets not have this one linger around too long.
Further clue with every guess. There is no more than this pic but I do know what it is.
