RNEG Questions

Post by wheeler »

I've just bought a 2010 Mk3 C5, Im not familiar at all with the Mk3 or any telematics system after the RT4 & ive not picked the car up yet either to get in about it.
It has a RNEG system, Is this the same as my way ? It has an SD card slot in the front for the map.
Can music files be played through the SD card ?
It has the RCA connector (audio only) in the glovebox, Is it possible to add an original USB socket to it ?
Can an original reversing camera be added or is any video input possible ?
The software version is rneg_D_R40b_R40.03 is there a later version & a good source of new software ?
There seem to be plenty of 2017 maps available on ebay for around £20.

No music playback via sd-card - at least not on my RNEG (2009).

Not sure about usb-socket, but just installed Yatour Bluetooth, and it works fine with my android-phone. If you really want usb-connection, Yatour isn't the best alternative, because it simply emulates cd-changer - folder structure and file count is seriously limited.

There were several versions - trial and error seems to be the order. Get a separate SD card if trying out audio - WMA or MP3 files will be fine, format in the PC with FAT32 - just keep your NAV card safe.
There is a later firmware version - when you have the VIN, pop it up or PM it, so I can see what other kit it has to be sure.

I'll need the VIN in order to see exactly what you have before I can see what options there are.

I'll check regarding the USB options later, as I'm not near my PC at the moment. The RNEG MyWay system is limited as it doesn't support the A2DP audio streaming protocol directly. There are separate aftermarket units you can buy that will interface with your phone to play music and then transmit this via FM, but it is not possible to control tracks or music via the car controls with this system.

There are other units ranging in cost and function that can partly provide audio streaming such as these from Phibu electronics in France:

Most still require the phone to do all the track selection etc., but still may be an option for you.

With Yatour-bluetooth -box connected to cd-changer port it´s possible to change tracks via RNEG or steering wheel buttons.

Updated the firmware to the latest version yesterday, no noticeable changes that i can see. Tried again to use an SD card to play music after the update & it still doesn't recognise it, left the card in for a good 20 minutes too. Must not be possible on my unit.
Im aware of the units that emulate the CD changer output & thats my backup plan if the factory unit cant be added, not really interested in Bluetooth streaming.
Any further forward in finding out if video input is possible on this unit or fitting original reversing camera ?

The Myway system is not enabled for video. Even on the later models that had eMyWay RT6 systems - only the later versions of this system had the necessary hardware for the camera option. There were several hardware revisions of the RT6 and not all of them supported it. In addition, you needed the correct parking ECU system that worked with it.

If your RNEG has the auxiliary RCA video support then you may be able to get some other third party system - but it won't work with the original Citroen kit.

Some systems I have seen effectively require a complete Video processing unit that are quite expensive you might want to consider here:

Or what about something that ACE did on his:

Ok probably go for a CD input emulator for music. Not overly bothered about the camera, would have done it if it was easy/cheap enough.
One last question, is it possible to get it to use full post codes ? If i get the latest maps for example?

No, unfortunately not. Just 5 digit. Only the later RT6 got that after the latest firmware for that system and the latest map update.

I find I can manage with 5 digit postcodes as long as I know the address too so I can fine tune it if necessary.
