basically i strongly suspect my C5 needs electrovalves/valve block
how much should i expect to pay for this to be done at a garage?
also i purchased some fluid, total XLD FE, i'm not 100% if it's compatible, i was told it was and some articles on line say it is but i'm rather reluctant
do we think it's worth a fluid change again? had 1 done before and the ATF was disgusting
many thanks

Re: quick AL4 questions
This is the recommended oil and remember you cannot completely replace all the oil in one change as only 3 litres comes out - so it will need up to 3 changes over a period to get as near a complete change as you can. Other oild are available - as long as they meet the standards for this gearbox.

If you think that the box needs maintenance, I would go to a specialist as they will likely know the gearboxes inside out and can advise you based on the problems you are having as to cost. These gearboxes also went through several modifications over their life, so another reason to leave this to a specialist IMO.

Re: quick AL4 questions
I was discussing with the garage today regarding this
as far as we know, and from some online research XLD FE is equivelant to LT71141
now, i'm almost certain it will be fine, but should i purchase some LT71141 and use that instead?

Re: quick AL4 questions
That's the Citroen recommended oil as of today - of course there are other suppliers - but it should meet the standards set.
If you look in the link I gave you, there is a link to the product specifications - and you will see it specifically mentions the AL4 and 4HP20 gearboxes, and also meets Peugeot/Citroën Automobiles B71 2340 standards. See below:
https://www.mobil.com/en-gb/passenger-v ... f-lt-71141
Automatic gearbox oil is one of those things you should not scrimp on - there are cheaper brands and alternatives that may meet minimum standards, but the original recommended oils meet the manufacturer standards that may be higher than the minimum standards.

i purchased some LT71141 and put that in
what a transformation!
feels like a new box, slightly iffy still for the first couple of shifts when stone cold but i'm happy

Re: quick AL4 questions
Ok, sounds like a fix, thanks for the update. - Remember it may take at least 3 oil changes over time to get as near a complete change as you can, as the torque converted retains a lot of the oil. But at least you seem to have improvements now.
