Vibration when turning and accelerating
I have noticed vibrations when I accelerate while turning. Initially I thought it was wheel/tyre related but have switched wheels and the vibration is still there (only when turning in one direction). Had a mechanic friend have a look and he couldn't see anything but he felt the vibration himself during a test drive.
I was going to replace bushes and ball joints but have read that this could be a symptom of a worn inner CV joint.
Any recommendations around the Bristol area as I don't think I would risk replacing the CV joint myself.

Re: Vibration when turning and accelerating
Had that, when steering left.
Was caused by low LDS.

Re: Vibration when turning and accelerating
On LHM systems, too, the steering can go knobbly/vibrate if there's air in the system, or the fluid has gone too low (so air is sucked in). It is only felt when you ask the steering assistance to do some work - eg by turning the wheel - especially towards full lock. Possibly more so in one direction, as the fluid gets thrown to one side. Brakes etc unaffected, as they are prioritised for safety.

Re: Vibration when turning and accelerating
LDS level is fine and vibrations are only when turning right AND accelerating.

Have a good root around the suspension, steering and engine mountings before you replace anything

That's what I think. Will have a look today. Should the allowed movement of the joint be the same for the inner and outer joint?

That sounds like Torque Steer. See my post here in another thread for possible causes:

Can steering rack damage cause this? Why is it only on one side though?GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑04 Jul 2021, 10:37 That sounds like Torque Steer. See my post here in another thread for possible causes:

Re: Vibration when turning and accelerating
Have any of the drive shafts been replaced on it recently?GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑01 Jul 2021, 23:41 ....The drive shafts are different lengths, so under acceleration (usually hard acceleration) the side with the shorter length shaft gains torque, so it pulls more than the other side which has the longer driveshaft. So this causes the veering off to one side.....

Re: Vibration when turning and accelerating
I wonder if enough grease was applied when the gaitor was replaced?

Re: Vibration when turning and accelerating
Good call. Had similar on the BX here - clonks and vibr. from CVs, especially when turning under power.
Used a short length of stiff 5mm plastic pipe on the end of a grease gun, to inject a good quantity of molybdenum grease into the joints, by going in through the gaiter's small end. Pushed the plastic pipe right up to the joint innards, and injected maybe 75ml of grease. After a few outings, all noise has gone.
Might be worth doing; cheap enough.

Re: Vibration when turning and accelerating
Seems to me the lower ball joint. The CV joint seems to be ok without any vertical movement.
Have soaked the area on wd40 and will try and replace this weekend. Any advice, tips? Should I change any bushes while I'm at it?

Re: Vibration when turning and accelerating
The ball joint won't vibrate spontaneously as it has half the weight of the front of the car on it but a dodgy joint could make it. Chris's idea of injecting grease in sounds good. I had a terrible clatter form the front of mine a few weeks back, found out both front springs were broken, but yours may not use them.
