Peugeot 3008 Caliper Change

Post by Doo »

Hi all, haven't been on the Pug forum yet... And here I am asking a daft question #-o

A mate wants his 3008 rear caliper changed. Easy.... Except for the effalump in the room, the e-brake!

Never done one of these before so before I make a fool of myself, my 1st question is, can I use my Lexi/Diagbox to wind the motor back, change the caliper then wind the motor out and bleed as normal?

My 2nd question, how do i get into the correct section of Lexi or DB? I think my previous issues (trying to code a key) are my lack of knowledge of this system  Any device I've used in the past is either a stand alone or an android touchscreen. So sitting looking at a laptop is a bit alien to me so far.

All suggestions greatfully accepted :)

Thank you.

It all depends on the year of the 3008 as to whether your version of Diagbox will support it.

If you have the VIN of the 3008 you are working on, pop it up so we can see a) the year and model and b) the type of system fitted, as there are 2 versions of 3008.

I'll have to ask my bud to send me the info tomorrow (today, tomorrow, last week, next year :-D ).

I know the front wishbones are a proper man sausage to change. The e-brake is a motor hidden in the depths somewhere and the cables arrive at the back ready to be wrestled onto the caliper.

Why cant they just leave things as they were? I mean, electric brakes is a stupid thing!

Anyhoo, I'll get back to you soon as. Meanwhile, thank you for your patience :?

Ok I'll keep an eye out...

The earlier 3008s had a cable-based EPB, but the 2016 on models did away with the cables I think and have motorised units on the rear calipers and no cables from what I can see. I'll know which when you can provide the year or the VIN.

For the earlier models, you still need Diagbox to put the EPB in maintenance mode following the guided procedure and disconnect the battery. Secondly, you will still need the caliper piston wind back tool to replace the pads.

For the post 2016 model, you very likely be unable to do the relevant operation on that EPB system with Diagbox 7.** as it will likely need a later version of software.

Not to worry, I have more tools than you could shake a stick at. I've had my wind back tool for many years, does left and right threads.

Reg is 2011

Vin: VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

So, use diag to put into maintenance, shut down, disconnect battery, do the do and reverse procedure...?

You can do the cable ones without diagnostic, just set the handbrake to off with ignition on, then switch off, and it will stay off. Just don't start the engine! Cable can then be un hooked from the caliper. You may find the cable is clipped into the caliper and you have to persuade it out. Once done make sure the cable is refitted, start the engine, and press the brake hard a few times to adjust up the caliper, before applying the handbrake.

If using the diagnostic procedure yes - then follow these 2 procedures:

Carry out the handbrake cables packing procedure (2) using the diagnostic equipment.
Carry out the electric parking brake calibration procedure using the diagnostic equipment.

Read and clear the fault codes, using the diagnostic equipment.
Activate the electric parking brake control.
Check the locking of the rear wheels.
Check the brake fluid level and top up if necessary.

Thank you both. I wonder if I could try both ... I mean, if I make a mess of it manually, can I fix it with diagbox??? I'll try it and will take photos.

All done. Bit of fun with the pads (needed the rubber hammer to persuade them to leave their bed...) then more fun (yeah, right) with the brake cable.

Still, all done and one delighted pal!

Thank you for the fore word and help to GMAB and RW.
