Its been Arrival Day today. UK Start up Arrival, with significant initial backing from Hyundai, now listed on the NASDAQ and established a presence in North America, both for a Micro factory and a US admin HQ.

Its R and D remains at Banbury, and there is a micro Factory planned at Bicester.

One to follow.

Very good film. I have it on DVD. As my Great Aunt Sylvia used to be both a translator and an interpreter she would probably have enjoyed it (but it came out after she died).

It is indeed James. I don't know what prompted me to buy it - Amy Adams probably, but it far exceeded my expectations.

First thing I thought of when I saw Neil's post.

Well who would have thought it, Arrival have literally within the last Hour released a video on youtube of a feedback session with UPS drivers at the UPS Camden Depot.

Looks like my googling and youtube-ing today 29th April, has made them make and release a new video :-D
First up on my list, when I was looking for last nights champions league highlights. :-D

I've put the UK Car industry in a spoiler to save column inches.
Spoiler: show

Feel free to add to it the good news start ups.....or any missed out. The only one I can think of is Arrival in the Commercial vehicle sector. Listed on the NASDAQ as opposed to the LSE, and setting up HQ in Charlotte North Carolina. It does have a "microfactory" in Bicester :-D

It is a fact of business, and unsurprising, that all of the UK Automotive Manufacturing has international investors, and international global companies in an "ownership" position. More important that UK Manufacturing thrives, and generates the investment so to do.

Latest on the list, the quintessentially British, but previously under "Malaysian" ownership, Caterham is now flying the Japanese Flag. To save translating from French this is the gist from the story here...
Caterham Cars was acquired outright on 31 March 2021 by VT Holdings: A 100% electric Caterham Seven by 2026?

Like all manufacturers, Caterham is thinking about its future and plans to electrify its Seven by 2026.
If you follow the automotive news assiduously, you may be aware that Caterham has officially been bought by its Japanese importer,VT Holdings. This acquisition could breathe new life into Caterham, which has been sailing a little bit in recent times, with all the new environmental standards that do not necessarily fit the brand's philosophy.

The only model in the catalogue, the Caterham Seven, is available in several engines and two chassis. But within a few years, a new engine could make its arrival. Kazuho Takahashi, the brand's new president, began to discuss the future of the Seven when he first spoke, saying that he would "protect and develop the Seven to meet the legislative challenges that lie ahead."

In other words, the Caterham Seven will probably have the right to a 100% electric version in the future. In an interview with Caterham's chief executive, Graham Macdonald, said the priority was to ensure that this eventual 100% electric Seven "behaves well like a Caterham." Still, Graham Macdonald has already had the opportunity to drive a prototype of a 100% electric Seven, and he was rather seduced: "It's a different car to drive, but no less exciting".
Yes and lets face it generating a suitable synthesised noise is well within the scope of current technological developments. Who knows maybe even a bit of synthesised exhaust/petrol smell isn't too far-fetched.

Volkswagen's sidekick brand Lamborghini is turning electric. I guess VW's wayward child Porsche are a bit tied up with their "we've started so we will finish" e-fuel experiment in Chile to make a similar declaration, for now.

Lamborghini Lineup about to Go Fully Plug-In-Hybrid, Then Electric in 2024
The Italian supercar specialist is bullish on EVs, says CEO Stephan Winkelmann, who announced the last fully gasoline-powered Lamborghini will be out in 2024.
But where will the noise come from?

I tried to pick out a video of the noise, for nostalgia purposes but the vast majority of them are in urban locations, car parks and streets and the hideously expensive and powerful cars being revved up stationary then accelerating for 100 metres, making a noise then hitting the next city junction/ line of stationery traffic.

Now I would welcome this should it come to pass. TESLA Berlin although phenomenally quick in ordinary automakers terms, has been subject to irritating bureaucratic delays. Could the UK get its act together :?: I can absolutely see the enormous political benefit to the UK, and red carpet rolling out for TESLA is de rigueur, across many competing Countries.

Maybe too much is being read into the rumour, but why not. TESLA are very much in the game of making things happen, and the UK need to be too, less of after you, can't do this because, can't do that because, get the gloves off and get things moving.

Apparently Elon Musk has been in the UK for a Day or two. Landed at Luton Airport. Regional authorities – including those in Teesside and the West Midlands – were given an unusually short 48 hours to prepare bids for a 250-hectare site, without being told what company the bid was for.

The process was run by the Office for Investment, a new government office which is designed to help smooth out discussions between the public sector and private foreign investors.

How long before all those supercar engineers trying to tweak the internal combustion engine to squeeze out world beating performance follow Lamborghini and just admit defeat.

Tesla is updating Roadster design, 0-60 mph in mind-boggling 1.1 sec with SpaceX package?

Porsche's e-fuel from Chile is going to have to be pretty powerful stuff to compete.

Bureaucracy in Berlin, Camera concerns in China, TESLA need a bit of straightforward simplicity and a country with a new can do attitude, and build a Gigafactory in the United Kingdom :-D

Old Elon Musk likes a challenge, and currently getting a bit of a rough ride in China where TESLA are having to jump through a few hoops to convince the Chinese Government and Military that their cars are not being used for spying. I hardly think they will, although TESLA do still have their benefits in tech/autonomous vehicles of advantage to China, but serious competitors in home grown NIO, and others. Talk was of the Model 2 being designed in China, likely to be the most disruptive offering from TESLA, so the mutual benefit just about survives for now..

Must admit when I saw a news item which was reporting on a considerable rise in Used Car prices, and a bloke standing in his garage, warbling on about huge demand outstripping supply, and prices on the rise I thought...what a load of rubbish.

Well its certainly being reported as being a "thing" and not just in the UK. The garage guy from Nuneaton was reporting increase in used car prices of 7% to 18% in the last 4 or 5 months.

Personally I'm not part of the huge demand at the moment, and quite happy to continue with what I have.

Lemmings, all of them! Knee jerk buying after being cooped up. These cars were there at a fraction of the current prices if you cared to go out and find your preferred model. Idiots! Bet the boots are full of bog rolls as well!

They're onviously intent of catering for the die-hards of the planet, and will likely find it a lucrative market.
