RCZ advice

Post by osx »

Going to replace the trusty C5 X7 with something smaller as 99% of the time it's only me in the car. Still doing a decent amount of motorway miles so looking for something with decent MPG and low maintenance costs. Won't be keeping for more than a couple of years. Would like to stay with the French for the distinctive looks hence the RCZ consideration.

Looks like there is a facelift edition - any obvious advantages of the newer edition. What are the main reliability issues?

There's a woman out the back of mine has an RCZ that appears to have been very reliable, unlike the Crossfire that preceded it.
When they first came out she had an RCZ too, that was replaced by the disappointing Crossfire.

I don't really know her to talk to, only see her leaving and returning, but her son and her husband both seem to think that the RCZ was a good choice. Son was driving it for several months while she was away and liked it.

The RCZ was only available in a choice of 5 petrol engines (EP6 variants) here or a single Diesel (DW10CTED4) 163 BHP, the same Euro 5 engine fitted to the later C5 X7 2.0 diesels.

Which engines were the most reliable? I have found one (petrol) that had a full rebuild because of timing chain failure - probably stay away from this one I guess.

The timing chain on the EP6 (particularly the early ones) is a lottery. One that has been properly repaired is probably going to last longer than on that has not been done. Still not a reliable engine by most standards.

The chain may but not sure if an engine rebuilt helps with reliability.

Did a test drive yesterday (1.6 EP6). Stunning looking car, decent interior (don't like all the LED screen palaver) but not impressed with engine or noise insulation. Coming from an X7 I don't think I will enjoy the motorway commute with the RCZ.

Think I will just get a C6 for the comfort before they become extinct and we are not allowed to drive them anywhere :-D

Yep, a C6 should definitely be smaller than a C5 X7
