58 plate c4 instrument fault….Help!

Post by Yorkshire_dub »

Hi,

I have a problem with my c4…. I left the hazard lights on one day at work and when I went back to the car the battery had flattened, I use a battery booster to jump start the car and since then none of the display has worked.

When I start the ignition I get every fault known to man on the small display in the center console and instead of mph and fuel etc on the ‘dash’ I just get three lines as in - - -

Is this a known fault? The car is a heap so unless there is a cheap fix I am going to end it!

I have taken a video but don’t have a clue how to upload it on here

For Pictures: Use the 'Full Editor & Preview" button located before the submit button, then click the Attachments tab at the bottom, press the 'Add Files' button, browse your photos (PC or Phone / Tablet), the photos will upload, then you can place the cursor where you want them and press the 'Place Inline' button to position it, then you can use the preview button before submitting your post to check it is laid out as you want it.

As for a videos: - you can upload a YouTube video directly by pasting the YouTube URL directly into your post.

As for the issue, if the terminals were attached the wrong way it may of caused some damage, otherwise a low battery condition can cause all manner of problems.

I suggest first giving the battery a good charge making sure you follow the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure to ensure the electrical systems are properly shut down and awakened, then report back if the issue is still there.

Tried the bsi reset procedure and nothing has changed, I’m guessing the battery should have plenty of charge as I’ve been driving it for a couple of bourse today, it has been weeks since the battery was flat.

Take a look at the fuse box for the 'Shunt' fuse. This is not really a fuse, but a shunt to switch the car electronica between showroom and customer settings (obviously it should be in the customer position). Move it to the opposite position, leave it for a minute or so, move it back to the customer position and see if that has sorted it.

Several years ago I had a Xsara Picasso as a company car. Once, when I returned to it after a call, the instrument panel thought it was at Blackpool, and started flashing all of the lights when I turned on the ignition. Because the company had emergency roadside assist I got into contact with them. The first thing the mechanic did was the 'shunt' fuse trick, and it worked. He told me what he had done, should the car play up the same way in the future (it didn't).
