5008 Abs problem

Post by Unterhunt »

Hello everyone.
After accident with my car(damaged front bumper) my car is going nuts. Abs, handbrake, gearbox failure. I have checked the wires going from abs to ecu and I found couple of them damaged. After repairing wires problem is still here.
I have read topics including "famous" blue wire going from Fuse box to abs. I've checked abs connector and I found 2 blue wires. One is wrapped with white wire(wheel sensor) and one is going separately.
When Im right I must have 12v on this wire?
VIN: VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Thanks for helping me out...

Today I have connected car with lexia.
Faults :
Abs:
C1320
Gearbox:
U0415 Permanent
U1213 Permanent
Engine Ecu:
U1213 Permanent
BSI:
F5FF

Front left abs sensor wiring. I have try to connect abs sensor just before abs connector. No difference. I've checked abs connector - no visible faults.
Is fault code same when is abs sensor defekt or is wiring problems?
Gearbox is in limp mode(switches only to 3 gear).
Thanks for help...

This is your front left ABS wheel sensor. There is either an open circuit, short to positive or short to earth.

So ESP will be cut off and all speed functions in back up / downgrade mode.

So look at the wheel sensor to see if has been damaged or the electrical connectors back to the ABS / ESP Block.

Update.
The wiring and abs sensor were inspected in the workshop. Everything is OK. They believe the Abs Module is defective. I hope to find a used one. As far as I understand, if the numbers match it is not necessary to program it?

That is not the case. The ABS ESP module has the hydraulic clock module and the ECU module combined, Some of these can be separated, some cannot - but in either case, the part number alone may not be sufficient.

Despite having the same part numbers, the configuration of the donor unit may be for a different vehicle.
Things that will need programming or values checked against your old one (so make sure you record the values from your existing unit using a diagnostic tool before removing it if you can):

Engine Code (Choice of 6)
Body Type
Tyres Sizes Fitted
Gearbox Type (Choice of 6)
Left or Right hand drive (for electronic architecture on the vehicle).

On top of this, the Steering Wheel Angle Sensor will also need to be recalibrated if the ABS / ESP module is replaced.

Thanks for replying.
Can I test abs Modul before changing it? I mean measuring resistence or something like this? I don't trust garage in my town...
I have tested abs Modul with lexia( pump, solenoid's etc..) and they are working normal.
It's possible that is only input of front left sensor defective?

I think I already told you in my previous post that the ABS fault code (C1320) is for the front left ABS wheel sensor. So that is the obvious place to start investigating without going any further changing ABS blocks until you have investigated the sensor or tried swapping this with a second hand one to see if that resolves the error.

The fact that the vehicle has been involved in an accident makes it difficult to be sure - as we don't know what the severity of the impact was or how it may of affected the vehicle's systems. But it makes sense to use the fault codes you have as a guide to start with and not replace parts you may not need to change at this stage.

Hello
The front Left sensor has been tested and everything seems to be ok with it. The next step is to replace the ABS module. However, I have a problem reading the parameters of my abs. For most parameters, the value is invalid or. Null. I tried to re-parameterize my unit but without success. Diagbox reports coding error failed.
It's possible that my unit would lose parameters after accident? 30A fuse for Abs unit was blown and couple wires was cut off by impact..

Well with that additional information, it seems like there was quite an impact, so at this stage I can't rule out the ABS / ESP ECU as totally damaged. If you have checked the sensors and the wiring then the unit has very possibly been damaged and may need replacing. As you have no communication with the ESP ECU, then it is probably either dead or unusable. At this point, forget writing down the parameters as you obviously won't be able to with it not working. Therefore any used or new unit will need some sort of configuration to check it matches your car's equipment and of course the steering wheel angle sensor will need calibrating.

Once you get a replacement unit that matches the part number of the old one, I can probably help you with the configuration part by letting you know which options to enter - but you will need to calibrate the angle sensor yourself of course.

Hello.
Thanks for answering. I can communicate with abs ecu(finding faults, erasing, checking functions of pump, solenoid's etc). Only thing that won't work (in addition to the sensor) is reading parameter. I think that first two parameter is value:not valid, tyre size parameter is value: Null, and other parameters its value:not valid too.
I have ordered pump with same number :9810486780.
The other number is slightly different :
Number on my abs ecu :9810486780, 87CFEB3420277 and 4867
Number on donor abs ecu : 9810486780,
87CFEC0401116 and 4867.
Its a that a big problem(when are number slightly different)?
Thanks for your time...

Should not be as the main part number is correct. The other numbers may be a software version, which can generally be updated if necessary by a dealer, but only if required.

Re: 5008 Abs problem

Hello.
Yesterday I have received a new(used) abs pump. I've changed only electronic part.
New electronic need to be configurated but my interface don't let me to do any calibration.
But interesting thing is that fault C1320 still present.
I'm confused. We checked abs sensor, checked wiring, change abs electronics but sensor fault won't disappear...
One interesting thing : In diagbox when I press + (on side where fault is stated) is written that is speed of front left tyre 255kmh.
But when I check dynamic information on Abs Ecu is written that is speed of front left tyre 0kmh.
Anybody have idea where to look or to do?
Thanks
David

Update.
Today I found where the problem was with the front abs sensor. Problem was in front left abs connector(Not from Abs sensor but female connector - wiring to abs ecu).
There was no corrosion or any sign of damage. The pins on the connector were just loosened. 😡
Now front left speed sensor works (I've checked it with diagbox and all tyres show right speed up to 10kmh).
Only thing left is in (I hope) brake switch.
Diagbox show faults :
C0040 and P0571.
I hope that will changing the switch sort problems ( gearbox limp mode, esp downgrade mode, car starting without brake pedal pressed, etc)

So finally car is driving again...
There were 2 things to blame for all the mistakes. Loose contact on the front left wheel sensor plug and Loose contact on fuse F2 in the engine compartment.
Now I have spare ABS module and spare brake switch 😁.
Marc thanks for your help...

Glad you have is sorted - that's the second one of these this month where the fault has been caused by a loose connection on the ABS sensor plug - the other case being the ABS connector female socket where the pin receiver was loose. Thanks for the update, I'm sure it will help othrs
