Hi. I've seen online a step by step guide to repairing the "dead" vertical lines on one of these, but I'm not really very confident to do it myself. Has anybody on here done one before, live within a reasonable distance from Melton Mowbray and be willing and able (for a fee naturally!) to do mine please?
Cheers.

Re: XM green dot matrix green screen
It's not a difficult repair, using the replacement conductive rubber strip (nappe ficheur, or something like).
The most difficult bit (if you haven't done it before) is removing the dash fascia, in order remove the LH (matrix) display, so you can put it on the bench and open it up.
If help here doesn't materialise, register and put a post on club-xm.co.uk. Endless folk there have done this repair.
I have too, but a tad far away...

Re: XM green dot matrix green screen
Thanks for the quick reply Chris, much appreciated. Yep, it's the dash facia removal that I'm worried about messing up eg forcing something that shouldn't be forced... breaking a clip etc..
I've tried to register with the club xm forum but with no joy. Didn't receive a registration email so tells me I'm not activated, yet won't let me re-register cos it says I'm a member! Chicken and egg....very frustrating...not sure how to fix tbh cos can't find who to email.

Re: XM green dot matrix green screen
I've just put a flag up on club-xm, asking one of the staff there to try to sort this.
Understand that there is a problem with new registrations getting swiftly processed.
If you want to PM me your email address, I can pass that on too, privately to one of the moderators.
Apologies for the glitch. Hopefully will be sorted.

I am one of the mods on club xm forum and the current setup only has one member an admin who has new. Member approval allowance and In his current situation is very busy with work. I have stressed twice plus another member about how silly it is and the number of new members we could or will loose joining us. Getting hold of site admin is quite hard though.

Re: XM green dot matrix green screen
By the way I have managed to do a couple before now. I have also recently found three S2 units amougst my collection of S1 units and discovered a couple of visual clues between them which led me to find the units..
I have an S2 car to try them in but from Monday I'm away for three weeks having some treatment done.... Yes I said me.. Not a car.. Lol. So I'm rather useless this side of June physically but can try mentally as n when.

Re: XM green dot matrix green screen
I made this repair a few years ago, using the replacement strip from this vendor: https://www.ebay.fr/itm/163636339139
I seem to remember that access is awkward but possible with the steering wheel in place, but the first time you remove the dash panel surround, you probably need instructions on where to find all the fasteners (I think that Haynes covers this). Replace the illumination bulbs while you are there.
The first time I reassembled the dot matrix there were still a few pixels missing along one edge, but after reassembling again with more attention to the alignment all was good and no problems since.

Re: XM green dot matrix green screen
If its first time I'd advise steering wheel off. The two screws each side of the wheel are rather awkward to get to for getting the front off..
Even I found it a bit of a pita dooing it with the wheel on..

Re: XM green dot matrix green screen
You could probably do with some help from someone who's done the job before.

Re: XM green dot matrix green screen
I can advise a, fascia remove guide if you like. It's really not that hard. The hardest bit to make it Easyer is finding the 45 deg t40 (or 30) torx screws to get the air bag out to get the steering wheel off..
