Dormouse's Recommendation from the Heat Pumps Thread.

Great. Will add more along the way, with pics. However, the East Angus coastline has many great beaches, harbours and spectacular cliffs - great for walks, dogs, picnics, bird watching, pubs and restaurants. Never as busy as it should be.

Surprisingly Carlisle :-D

Well not all of it. In fact probably for me not much of it although the Station/ Castle/ Cathedral have their attractions.

But undoubtedly the jewel in Carlisle's crown are the acres and acres of parkland by the River Eden just discovered for us in the last couple of days. Such open spaces and more formal parks in towns and cities across the Country are probably an underappreciated asset. They are fantastic.

Just back from a lovely break in and around Lochaber/Fort William and I will put up some of the interesting pics shortly. It is 15 years since I journeyed around these parts. Some things are the same and some things have definitely changed. Road cyclists are more prominent. Electric cars and charging points are new and very prominent. We followed a Mini Countryman E and a BMW I3 all the way up the A9 to Dalwhinnie. Kamikaze drivers haven't - only just their steads. So if the guy in the maroon Tesla X that nearly wiped out a group of motorcyclists on Rannoch Moor today ever reads this - grow up and be patient like the rest of us. Wiping out your kids in the back too wouldn't be that clever either. Some things never change!

Looking forward to your photos - one of my favourite areas of the Highlands.
Fifteen years is a long time. Not sure I could last that long without a visit.

Here is some teasers. The Sukuki averaged 67.8 mpg on the dash but I put it nearer 62/63 real mpg. We stayed in a lodge on the site of the old Tulloch Gun Club.

1622908487280.jpg
We visited the Nevis Biking centre near Fort William and went up in the gondola to the plateau at about 2000ft
1622908974485.jpg
We walked along the ridge pathway to a viewpoint below Ben Nevis and, yes, that is Fort William in the valley below.

And just to try to give some sort of thread to the escapade, the last shot is the electric car charging area in the bottom car park.

Have to admit that some of the things that have stopped us doing more north Scottish trips have been places like Somerset, Devon,
North Wales, Warwickshire, Lincolnshire, Worcestershire, York multiple times, Morecombe, Stratford upon Avon lots and lots of times. This does not include Ayr, Arran, Eyemouth and Glasgow. Or Belfast. All more than once.

We had booked well in advance for the "Harry Potter" train as our anniversary treat last year but we all know what happened in 2020. However, here is another teaser

Little known fact - there are two separate steam trains per day not just one!

And just add belts to the braces, they put a diesel electric up the back for security. They are running on a Scotrail live line after all!

You had a good time, I can tell!
Davie and I (NC500, 2017) encountered the Harry P Express when we got to Mallaig on Day 1. Pouring with rain, it was, so not a lot of photos that day, and no exploration of the Glenfinnan Viaduct.
You got a decent view of Ben Nevis - a rare thing.
You've certainly got around - Arran, too. We drove there (from Malaga) a few years ago - magic place.

The NC 500 is all about the variety of locations and scenery. The chances of doing it all in clear weather are low!

Top pictures Dormouse! Mountain scenery, railways, and a Nissan Leaf to boot...all perk my interest :-D

Properly visited Eyemouth today, after having visited it dozens of times mostly harbour and town, but what a dramatic rocky coastline of cliffs and coves and clear water on the north side right round and no doubt past St Abbs Head. Just a simple half hour to an hours stroll out the top end of the Parkdean site and round the cliffs.
Left the camera in the car, so no relevant pics, but yes I can tell you today the sky was blue, the sea was deep blue, the water was crystal clear, and the rocky cliff scenery in the opposite direction to this photo taken when we were leaving were worth seeing.
