Early Citroen GS bumpers

Unread post by tony trans am »

Are early GS bumpers made of stainless steel?
I have managed to dent one corner and I’m wondering whether it’s cheaper to replace with new that seem to be chrome plated or have it beaten out.

Certainly my first 2 GSs had metallic bumpers and had a very shiny chrome looking finish but couldn't tell you exactly what they were made of. My CX also had them and when I reversed at high speed into of those wretched low concrete bollards I made a nice dent in mine. Solid though.

Some (at least) South African assembled GS’s came with chromed bumpers rather than the normal stainless, along with local glass and interior carpet & upholstery.
