807 coolant leak

Post by Romtag »

Hi everyone.

I was on the M40 yesterday when a metal coolant hose decided to give up and urinate the contents of the car's coolant all over lane one of the motorway.

I safely got to the hard shoulder and called out the RAC, whilst waiting, I tried to pop the bonnet and the small bonnet release cable had snapped/cut - I say cut as it's a very very clean break

RAC promised a recovery truck at 6:30pm.. anyway the recovery agent turned up at 10:30pm ... Towed me to services as said it was to dangerous to look at car on motorway.

Found that the metal hose is knackered and corroded and about as useful as a sieve when trying to bail out a sinking ship.

He managed to bypass the hose and I got in at 3:30am!

That was with me being a priority as I was on the motorway. Thank God I had dropped my kids off at their nans in Brentford.

I can't locate the part on line as I'm 100% which part I looking for,

I have attached a photo and the recovery agent says its for the secondary heat matrix?

From this garbled description is Marc or anyone able to tell me which part it is so I can get one on order

Its the pipework for the Webasto auxiliary heater, looks like they come as a pair.
Whats your reg or last 8 digits of VIN & i can check which one as there are a couple of choices depending on build date.

Will be interesting to see the routing of those pipes, and what they're connected to.
Looks like they've rusted through from the outside, which is pretty inexcusable. Why no wax protection under there?

Hi Chris, only owned the car for about a month and a half... It's been an epic journey of expenses so far.

Finding out the previous owner did a lot of bogde jobs.

I have a lot I need to do to the car and will hopefully get a decent car at the end of it.

9Z025882 is the last 8 digits.

Could you tell me me about the aux heater. I didn't even know it was there. How do I use it?!😬

You are completely forgiven, Mark O:) Will be good when it's knocked into shape.
I've always had a soft spot for the 806/Synergie, and really like its clean lines.
Keep us posted.

Looks like its these pipes to me, the come as a pair. Part no 6462T8 and are £85.28 + VAT.
Its a little diesel fired heater that heats the coolant to enable you to get heat faster. The are often found on larger vehicles with more space to heat. Im pretty sure all UK spec diesel C8's/807's had them.
In standard form the operation is completely automatic when you operate the heating but they normally only kick in if its really cold. You can usually tell when it is kicking in as they are quite noisy, sounds like a little jet engine starting & loads of diesel smelling smoke from its little exhaust.
In Scandinavian & other cold countries they often come with timers or remote controls. to pre heat the coolant before getting in the car.

Are they using the vehicle's engine coolant, or do they have a coolant circuit/reservoir of their own?
Just wondering whether a leak on these would leave the car drivable?

Aaah makes sense now.

I take it, that price is from Peugeot direct?

Thanks for your help!

Yes its plumbed into the cars own coolant system so a leak would empty the entire cooling system. It most likely could be easily bypassed with hose joiners & some rubber pipe.
They were also found on the Synergies/806’s & Xantia estates with the winter pack.

Yep that's what the mechanic did to get me home, as we were going to be waiting for another 4 to 6 hours for a tow truck as they couldn't tow the car with their van long distance.

It's not to bad for a dealer price to be honest. So may just give Pug a call and get one on order 👍

Thanks for the tech support and info, always so helpful on FcF.

Ok, parts are on order.

What antifreeze/coolant should I use as I can't find the tech specs?

Sorry for asking so many questions 8-[

Thanks
