gear/clutch problem ? C5 X7 2009

Unread post by amigo »

Hi

got a strange problem on my new c5 x7 2,0 hdi manual 2009

When i start the car it do rattling and sctrattling noise (like a worn Clutch release bearing ) but the noise is going away when i press the clutch pedal down,

so if i release the clutch pedal fast when stand in idle the noise is getting worse and i feel small vibrations in the cabin,
if i realese it gently there is not much noise but more than normal and no vibrations in cabin.
so when i press clutch pedal down there is absolute no rattling or scrattling noise..

What is wrong , its that gearbox problem ? hope any know

Sounds like Clutch release bearing on its way out, Just done the wife's C4 Clutch, It started just like that and within a few short trips, the bearing disintegrated

Just wondering whether you have a dual mass flywheel (DMF).
Can you put up your VIN, so we can check?

Yes all the Diesel X7s have DMFs Chris.

@amigo: Just post the Youtube link to the video - these are supported.

That heavy clonking (rather than just a light rattle) does sound like a DMF having gone sloppy.
It can happen at the sort of kilometrage you're talking about, but I'll let the C5 X7 experts here advise on this one.

Yes my DMF was changed at about 40k miles (the previous owner towed  ), but careful driving can make these last a lot longer - just don't ride the clutch and don't drive like a boy racer - that's a DMF killer - change gear normally at the right speed and don't use the gears to slow down if you can - brake pads are cheaper than a DMF!
