Help please , 1.6hdi c3 not start after clutch change
Hi I’ve just joined this forum in hope of finding my problem
Took the car into the garage to do a clutch, car had no issues before hand
, anyway I stripped below the bonnet, removed battery, gear linkages etc , then I put the car up on the lift to start removing the shafts etc
Anyway broke the locknut key for the wheels , had one wheel off but needed the drivers side of too ,
So I welded a nut onto the stud , after numerous attempts I got the wheel off,
The rest of the job went straight forward,
Everything back together, fitted the battery , (battery is only a month old and is fully charged)
Now I’ve no power , no dash lights , won’t crank over , zero power, the only thing that’s doin anything is the abs pump is running strangely,
I’ve double checked the cables, earths , fuses,
I am absolutely baffled, I’ve still the car on the lift , will take it of later tonight and check the fuses inside
Any help at all would be really appreciated,
I’m worried that the welder had damaged something, but id that possibly with the battery removed ?
I’ve welded at cars for years and never had a problem, or maybe it’s a coincidence

Earth lead to gearbox, or Main positive to starter motor ?

Didn’t have the starter wires off , and I’ve removed the earth cable and cleaned it and no difference, the earth cable is spotless,
It’s like there’s a main fuse blown somewhere!

Were there any really heavy sparks when you re connected the battery? There are a row of maxi fuses under the main under bonnet fusebox id check them.
Is the main positive connection on the under bonnet fusebox been tightened back up properly? Not sure if you removed it or not but I usually do when doing a job like this to give more slack on the +ve cable for moving it out the way.
It does kind of sound like a main positive or earth cable is not connected properly/connected back up in the wrong place
If you connect a volt meter between the battery +ve & put the negative of the meter in the engine block then on the chassis are yo getting the same reading as if you connect straight to the battery negative?

No there wasn’t any heavy sparks when I connected the battery, just the usual light connection sparks ,
I’ve checked them maxi fuses , but will go through them again this evening more thoroughly ,
Yes I’d them cables disconnected to give more slack ,2 13mm nuts hold them on , but again I’ve them 100% tight , the cable more to the right hand side doesnt spark at all when I reconnect it strangely
Thank you for your reply

Still the same , strange when I connect up the battery the abs pump is running,
I even disconnected it to see if that was causing some sort of a problem but no it’s just the same

Re: Help please , 1.6hdi c3 not start after clutch change
Not sure if it could be a BSI prob, Someone with more knowledge than me, ( most people ), will probably know that, I would be starting with the basics with a multimeter and follow the power and earth wires, and all the fuses
Try a jump lead from the engine to a good bodywork ground

Re: Help please , 1.6hdi c3 not start after clutch change
Doubtful it is a bsi problem going by people I’ve spoke too ,
I’ve power to all the big maxi fuses ,
I’ve attached new earths,
Check every single fuse visually and tested
And I’ve still nothing, not even hazard lights !!
Only thing doing anything is the abs pump runs constantly, even if there is no key in the ignition
I’m completely beat with it now

Re: Help please , 1.6hdi c3 not start after clutch change
Whats your VIN & i will try having a look at some wiring diagrams?
Do you have access to Diagbox/Lexia or other diagnostics & have you tried talking to the car with it?

Vin is
VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
It’s actually a 1.4hdi with a Bosch ecu
I have a launch diagnostic tool but it won’t read anything because the car is dead like the ignition isn’t on
I’ve had 4 different mechanic s look at this and everyone is baffled
Obviously we are all missing something, but there is only so many times I can check fuses and earth s lol
Was told to try a different battery fuse tray that sits on top of the battery, did that but just the same
Any help would be greatly appreciated before I push this car out of my garage and set fire to it
