Guess what happened on Saturday................

Unread post by KennyW »

Hi All,

Well car parked at mother's house and somebody towing a trailer down the street added some racing stripes to both offside doors and removed and dented both Chrome stripes on the car.

Minor damage but if insurance is involved they will right off the car because cost of repair will be more than 60% of the value of the car.

I will do it when weather improves.

Marc, looking for the part numbers of the chrome trim please.

How gutting is that! Sorry to hear - I hope you got hold of the driver - sometimes it may be worth coming to a private arrangement to cover the costs - cheaper for both outside of the insurance possibly?

Let me know which bits you need part numbers for using Table (A) or Table (B) and the item number(s) Kenny. I've put both diagrams up to avoid confusion and in case you need fixings or other parts that you may not be aware of like fixings...

Still dear for a piece of plastic coloured Chrome.

Thanks Marc, I think it was one of the specialised PSA part companies.

I think I'll look for second parts

I wish I could remember his name, but at on Citroen rally near Milton Keynes there was a man (I think his first name was Brian) who made and sold the 'chrome' strips for Xantias. I hope that this might jog somebody else's memory as to who it is.

I tow boats quite a bit and not the best at reversing. I am ok at driving forward though and haven't managed to hit anything.
If it is an amateur towing, I bet he may not be insured to tow..........many aren't. Hope you get that fixed up Kenny What a bummer!
You may have more chance of getting an X7 scrapper as I cannot get an older one. I know there was an X7 AT Barry Devlin in Auchentiber but the scrappy out your way are usually better than here in the West. I haven't priced the sill cover I need new from Cit as it would be silly. You feel like asking them if the price is for real plastic or imitation? :rofl2:

Assuming that you know who the perpetrator was, then you should just claim off their insurance. They can't write it off, it's not their car. You have the right be put back in the position you were before the incident, so this either means repair of the car, or replacement - you can push back on any offer for cash on the basis of work you have done (e.g. the rack and brake pipes) that you would need to do on any new one. You should be able to get the full insurance costed repair of the car refunded to you, even if you decide to do the work yourself. You certainly need to get an estimate from a body shop as a starting point for the discussion.

Good luck!!

Brian Primmer.
He was advertising the last few sets in the September 2020 CCC magazine at £80 per set incl £30 P&P.
No more to be manufactured and he hasn't advertised since.
