How old is the car?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the earlier ones suffer from urea ingress to the electronics on the tank, which wrecks it. It's only available as a complete unit and costs the thick end of a grand... Can present as yours has done with failure to recognise a fill up. Citroen were offering extended warranty on the tank, no harm in asking if it is that

If it is the tank at fault then a 2015 car is outside the extended warranty time period.

What message are you getting? If it's just the refill one then it may go away after a few restarts. How long did you run the car for after it appeared?

Going back to 2021 a new tank was fitted to the C4 with some compensation from Citroen. Its been fine until a couple of days ago, yes you got it the UREA light is back on. Took it to the Citroen garage who fitted the tank and they cleared it down which lasted 24 hours until it was back on again. Garage now says need to strip down to expose the wiring loom cost £300. If not that could be various things including CCU etc etc (Mega Bucks)!
Any ideas out there ?

It's not unknown for the tank components to fail again. You would need to get the fault codes and look at the live data to see what it is or isn't doing to narrow down the fault - you need someone that knows what they are looking at; and this is unlikely to be the dealer!
