Engine fault repair needed

Post by Colin P »

Hi, I have a 2012 DS5 hybrid. Started with directional headlights fault but progressed to Amber engine fault, repair needed. Electric mode also not available.Car came to a halt after trying to pull away one morning with a red engine warning. AA attended and advised a new battery. Once this was fitted all was well for a day, except electric mode still unavailable. Directional headlights fault came back and Amber engine fault followed. No red warning as yet but feel.its only a matter of time. My local garage couldn't help as he said he's not confident in dealing with high voltage batteries but said it may be a problem between high voltage batteries, generator and starter battery. I've a cheap diagnostic fault reader but it does not recognise any fault codes. Any advice and how much would a main dealer be to rectify any problems.

Hi, and :welc: to the forum.

Before you do anything else you must get your car diagnosed with a proper diagnostic system. There are forum members who have Lexia clones that can properly read PSA vehicles, and they may be able to help you. NOt all of these members are active, so they may not respond to a request for help. The following link is a mpa of all members with Lexia equipment;

Citroen will charge you about £60 for a diagnostic. You really do need this or you will likely be throwing money away. Citroen will be able to provide a list of fault codes and possible casues where you can make an informed choice before any work is undertaken. The Hybrid models may well have specific issues that are beyond the average Joe mechanic.

As a piece of information. Your 12v battery does not start the engine. The 200v traction battery does that and charges the 12v battery when the car goes into "Ready" state. The 12v battery, however, does supply the power for all the normal car functions and ECUs so if your battery was failing it would affect all sorts of things.

Do you have your VIN (automasked on post submission) handy Colin? I'd like to check something out if possible.
