Im guessing a 2004 model will be the DW8 engine with the oval fuel filter? If so its here.
If I remember right though the filter housing sits the other way around when fitted onto the engine so will be at the back of the filter housing.

I've had diesel cars for over 20 years, and never tried to drain any water out of a diesel filter. In numerous filter changes I have never even seen a small blob of water in the bottom of the filter....

Hi Richard....... thanks for getting in touch! You do definitely get water in diesel that's for sure hence the water drain facility on the fuel filter........ I've had lots of boats over the years with four/six cylinder diesel engines and tractor engines of course and had to drain the water trap on a regular basis....... it was a glass bowl and you could see the water build up and was easy to drain! The previous message I received was spot on...... it is the DW8 engine and I have located the drain plug now I just need to work out how to do it........ there's a pipe connected to the drain outlet coming out below the engine but not really sure how to work it and I don't want to have to take it down to the garage for such a simple bit of maintenance........ so if anyone knows how to drain the water off on this engine I would appreciate the heads up!

Thank You......... Steve!

The normal procedure is to put a catch pot under the drain tube, open the drain, and then pump the primer till some fluid comes out the drain. If you do it in a clean pot you will be able to see if there is any water. It's quite possible in a car that the pump is not taking suction right from the bottom of the tank, and that any water stays in the tank.

OK Richard cheers for that........ I have tried turning the drain plug anti-clockwise but nothing drains out as my old Haynes is telling me it should but you think using the priming pump should help........ I will give it a go........ MANY THANKS! Steve

Or if you unclip one of the pipes on top of the filter it should let it 'breathe' & the diesel should flow out. Just pump the priming plunger when done.
