2001 Xsara Picasso sunroof seal?

Post by Moog »

Hi.

I've got a 2001 1.6 8v Xsara Picasso SX with the two-piece sunroof - front glass panel slides back over the rear glass panel.

Can you still get the sunroof seal? Mine is slightly damaged and although not leaking the seal is distorted and a bit compress at one side of the front edge, and just doesn't sit right.

I've tried things like Honda's Shin-Etsu S2000 silicone grease and Gummi Pflege to help re-condition it but I think it's a lost cause to hope it'll regain it's shape.

Can you still get the sunroof seal? Local Citroen dealer wasn't helpful. AND how on earth do you remove the front sliding panel to get to the complete seal? (With the roof back about 3" of seal are obscured).

The car is almost mint as I'm the 2nd owner - bought it with 61k two years ago and with a new Gates cambelt and w/pump, the car has loads of life left in it and deserves some TLC.
Must have been garaged for 18 years as the underneath is 100% rustfree.

Many thanks!

Wow - thank you for checking!

Awww that's a shame. Hmmmm I wonder if there any NOS seals kicking around in a dealership somewhere......? Had luck with that many years ago with an air-cooled Beetle.

All the best

Was the roof made by another company such as Webasto? Or in-house by Citroën?

Many thanks.

That I can't tell you I'm afraid, suffice it to say they are quite rare as demonstrated by the price being asked for one here:

https://www.autofixa.com/citroen/xsara% ... 8401g5/p2/

A tad under £2.5k ......

Sun roofs are the work of the devil. One of my daughters had a Renault Clio and the sun roof leaked on that. I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to stop the leak and at one point thought I had succeeded but the leak came back. We sold that car on.

My brother also has a Renault Clio that's the previous model to the one my daughter had. That has a sun roof and that leaks.

Sounds horrendous :(

I had a 1993 Proton with a leaky sunroof - had to sit on a bin liner after it had rained and water used to drip onto my head.....

Brother had a Rover 214. He and wife all in their Sunday best and off to a wedding.
Reversed off their drive and were deluged with cold water - it had rained the previous night and they got a nice cold rainwater shower. Had to go back inside and get changed for the wedding.

Mine on both the Accord and Xantia didn't leak but I did forget to close them, sat in a puddle when leaving for work the next day.

I've just found this company - might be worth a call as they have several Xsara Picasso Weather strips in - if you have your VIN I can see if the part they have is likely to fit:
