2001 C5 Reinstating TPMS

Post by jamescarruthers »

Hello all. I’ve had a little read on here and I think my sister’s 2001 C5 has the early TPMS from new but it has been deactivated, probably when the batteries in the sensors died.

The wheels have the solid metal valve stems that look like the TPMS my C6 had in but there is no mention of Tyre Pressure Monitoring in the central display screen menus.

The VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. Is anyone able to look up if did indeed come with TPMS and if the part number for the replacement sensors is 5430 02?

I see that on eBay you can get 4 sensors for about £100 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174653081652

I take it would then need someone with a Lexia to switch the TPMS system back on and then a tyre place with an “exciter”, whatever that is.

I hope to have my hands on this car again over summer and thought this would be a nice little job to get that system working again. (And also I think it only gets its tyres checked by me once a year judging by the pressures I found in it last summer when they came to visit!)

That's correct, 543002 is the part for the sensor (item 2) that includes everything except item (4) which is the pressure sensor mounting nut.

Item (2), part 543002 is priced at £134.18
Item (4) part 542012 is priced at £10.73

All VAT inclusive prices as of today.

So you need to check whether the sensors you are considering have the nut (probably not).

Lexia is needed to programme and pair the sensors to the ECU. The Exciter tool is used to activate the sensor so that it starts transmitting so that the diagnostic tool can pick them up and identify then code them. They are supplied dormant so the batteries do not start discharging.

Your TPMS ECU will also need re-enabling and configuring as it has likely been disabled.

Cool, thanks. Will store this in the back of my brain for a little summer tinkering!
