As you brought up the Tiger Cub it's only right to include the two wheeled version: (Picture borrowed from ebay but I'm sure the owner won't mind the extra exposure)

Bikes seemed to have cornered the market in memorable names for their products. BSA, Velocette, Royal Enfield, Norton, and I offer the iconic Vincent with their Black Shadow and their Black Lightning.

Here's Rollie Free doing his stuff on a Vincent Black Shadow/Lightning (there is some debate) getting over 150mph, Bonneville Salt Flats in 1948.

As I'm from Rawtenstall/Rossendale I remember these still being in service in that very livery when I was a nipper.

Anyone got any "modern" "new" suggestions for this thread or did good names disappear with BSA Triumph Vincent et al?

A brief look at the more global market reveals the indian market doesn't have much to offer in the "best" names department with its current crop of new releases.

Our very own CitroJim comes up with some interesting car names :-D Some of his greatest hits.
....very busy weekend which included a night out for my birthday and ending with replacing a foglamp on a Poxhall Corset
......Still today an old original HDi is one of the most refined diesels I know. Compare and contrast with the Poxhall Septic next door on an 11 plate. Sounds like a bag of spanners in comparison.
....I hereby humbly apologise to all Poxhall Ashtray owners for any offense caused
...In fact it goes right back to a Poxhall Chavalier we once had in the 90s that suffered a similar fate
Compare it with a 1994 Fraud Mundaneo or Poxhall Chavalier, it's contemporaries.
Well, compared to a lot of obese lardy-arsed crap on the roads today the Xantia is positively petite and svelte :-D

It's barely the size of a Poxhall Ashtray these days and they are considered small cars. The Xantia in its day was classified as a large family car.
I can just about tolerate next-door's Poxhall Septum but that's only because it's nearly Mauritius Blue
Most old cars are best quietly forgotten. Poxhall Shovit, Viva and the Hillman Avenger immediately spring to mind. The only good thing about the Avenger was the name...
and not forgetting the Poxhall Repmoblie and the Dagenham Dustbin!

Enjoy

Armstrong Siddeley had a couple of evocative names.

So wse have the Typhoon and the Hurricane. The distinguishing feature is hard top or soft top.

But if you were sitting around the Armstrong Sidderley Boardroom discussing the names which one would you call the Typhoon, and which one would you call the Hurricane?
Spoiler: show

It is rumoured that Barbara Windsor once made comment on her portrait painted by Syd James. It seems he had her hand too far from her shoulder and her instant reaction was "Arms wrong Sydney!"

Another from the rumour mill concerns indiscretion in the Whitehouse. Apparently Bill Clinton was not the first president to be naughty with the staff. In a previous administration the tea lady went missing and the search party entered the Oval office to find Ford Caughtinher.!!

Winds have always been popular as car names (probably 3rd only to animals & places) - think Maserati, VW & Matra in particular but I doubt you'd get away with Hurricane or Typhoon now - too great a risk of causing offence to the victims of same.

Well I started this thread off with one of motoring's best ever names, and if I am not mistaken here is one in the flesh freshly photograped by yours truly.

I do believe this unassuming little motorcycle is a 1958 500cc single-cylinder Velocette Venom (with a Thruxton tank!) Hall Green's finest for the Birmingham connoisseur.

....not forgetting the HRD Rapide, which at half the capacity of the Black Shadow wasn'it quite...
Also Triumph Tiger 21 comes to mind. On a lighter note, Aerial Arrow; ah, those were the days.
Mind you, the older I get, the better I used to be. :rofl2:
