Catalytic Converter

Post by Andle »

June 2007
Picasso Xsara
1.6 HDI VTX
92 bhp
9HXC
DV6TED4

Breaking car. Posted on a facebook group.

Chaps contacted me there - wanting to buy the cat (only).

What would be a fair price (£100????).

Please explain if I could remove it fairly easily or if it is a major job.

I was guessing i should take the whole exhaust upto the last set of bolts underneath before the tube goes up to the engine bay?

Would be grateful for any guidance on best way to go about removal.

Please bear in mind there can be hundreds of posts a day from members with immediate problems who are trying to fix their cars, so these requests may be prioritised over those that are just breaking their cars or selling on parts.

The only help I can offer is that the value of a catalytic converter is greater if it's an OE cat rather than aftermarket. Then condition of the internal honeycomb comes next, which is related to mileage covered and how well the car has been treated (driven over rutted ground, overheating, etc).

In the absence of anyone else responding, my gut feeling is £40 - £100. Maybe £120 at a push. I'm willing to be shouted down though!
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

You will most likely find that buyer of old cats. are only after the scrap metals.
Tip- leave the breaking of a car to the buyer.
Another tip- the scrap value of your car, even if it doesn't drive but ideally should be complete is around 300 gbp.
