EGS actuator fluid leak

Unread post by BrianW »

I realise that this isn't new. Last week the gears would not engage and "gearbox fault" appears. I have checked the fluid level which was below min. level and topped it up. Worked well again but fluid level dropping fairly quickly. The fluid seems to be coming out of the small holes in the side of the bell housing (I think that is the term) and not from the pipes. Is this possible?. Perhaps an oil seal failure?. VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

The clutch actuator is a concentric type inside the bell housing, and shares the same fluid with the EGS actuator, so, yes, if it starts leaking you will lose the gearbox actuator oil. Gearbox out job to change it, so you might as have a new clutch / flywheel where you are there. Needs someone that knows what they are doing and has the right diagnostic software as you need to depressure the actuator before you start, and then repressurise / bleed / reprogram it afterwards..
