Tailgate

Post by Steveo »

Hello All
I've just changed a rear wheel bearing on my 2009 C5 x7 all went well!
However I found out before I started the job that I cannot open the rear tailgate using the unlock button grrr
I have managed to open the tailgate using the small screwdriver (emergency opening) but now I need to find the problem.

Can anyone tell me if the wiring for the tailgate is in the thick rubber trunking or is it in the smaller trunking?
Photographs / diagrams or any pointers very welcome

Kind regards
Steve

Ok, so manual opening - in which case this is a central locking issue.

Did you disconnect the battery when doing the other repair? If so, then as you have already mentioned, you can only unlock it in this state with a screwdriver to manually move the latch. So if you disconnected the battery, did you follow the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure properly if you disconnected / reconnected the battery?

If you didn't disconnect the battery, then I'm assuming that the tailgate will not unlock when pressing the internal locking button on the dash, nor when using the fob buttons to lock / unlock? Did the tailgate lock / unlock properly before you carried out the other work?

Hi Marc
The story so far lol
I have had a rumbling from the back of the car and I diagnosed rear nearside wheel bearing,

I visited the local wood yard on Saturday morning to collect some plywood and the tailgate would not open using the remote button on the key fob or the unlock button (plus the rear switch over the number plate) in the vehicle all other locks are working normally.

No work has been carried out on the wheel bearing at this stage.

I suspect the micro switch has failed or I have a broken wire in the rubber trunking but I am unsure which trunking the switch /tailgate control wires run through.

I could do a bsi reset but I don't hold out much hope as the tailgate was fine the night before and nothing has changed apart from parking it up and locking it for the night on the fob.

I changed the wheel bearing and I am now back to silent running on Saturday afternoon.

Kind regards
Steve

The switches do fail due to water ingress, cheap enough to replace.

Good news. They are known for wearing on the bend, so may be worth applying some insulation tape and some of that flexible tubing you can get to protect the wires for some support Steve.
