Berlingo Road Tax

Post by Doo »

I "know" it's officially VED, but it is STILL a TAX to be allowed to use the road network....

Anyhoo, I'm a bit puzzled as to why they are scamming me for £125PA when the identical Peugeot model with the exact same everything (engine, gearbox, DPF, stop/start, etc, etc, is only £30PA :?

The model in question is a 90bhp 2012 model Citroen Berlingo Multispace with the dial up auto box (the box looks identical to my wife's piloted box on her C4) with the 1.6 e-hdi engine.

I know it's not much, but it's still £95 more than I want to pay :-D

But seriously, why is it so?

Thank you.

They are calculated on emissions and date of registration, you need to look up why the difference here:

Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

I know how they are calculated, but how can two identical cars be calculated so differently? Mind you, the Peugeot was registered 5 months after mine!

It's all a lie anyway. My Range Rover runs on LPG and last emissions test the CO was 0 (allowed 3.50) and the Hydrocarbons was 7 (allowed 1200). Yet they still charge £245 or thereabout.

OK, I'll put it another way. The Peugeot and the Berlingo appear identical apart from the badge (but they are born in the same factory).

How can my engine be producing more CO2 emissions than it's identical twin? They are 5 months apart so should be under the same tax band, unless the Peugeot is under 90bhp. So what could it be? Fuel map? Turbo (VV or FV)? But the thing is, they appear to be absolutely identical so that's why I am asking. I am 5g/km over the threshold.

It may be just a simple as the date of registration. I used to have a 2001 Xsara VTS, the tax at the time was around £270 a year, if i had the same car but it was registered 3 months earlier it was nearly £100 a year less. It was quite sickening.
I knew someone that owned a 2000 year Ferrari 360 & they were paying again nearly £100 less per year in road tax than me.

EDIT: just checked the tax rates on the same car now 😮
Look at the difference depending on reg date.

It would appear that the govt are (what I've always known) a shower of b@stards who get some sad sack to make stuff up and gain them revenue.

Ahh well, it's still cheaper than the Range Rover.... 8-)
