My Merc had gone up to £350  but it was still over £50 cheaper than Confused.com, maybe something to do with me being 80 now. My wife's insurance on the 406 was about £230.

Could you insure both in your wife's name, perhaps a multi-car policy, with you as a named driver?

While it is acceptable for mega-rich people to not have insurance - they have to demonstrate the ability to pay any claims against them out of their own funds, this all seems to be incredibly silly. If they are well off enough to buy a Lamborghini they can surely set up a direct debit for the insurance, or pay someone to look after that detail.

This idiot had (at least) TWO cars that were uninsured. I wonder how may others they have that are also not insured. If the mega-rich can afford to pay the fines from their petty cash maybe the law should hit them really hard where it hurts (in their wallets). For each car they have uninsured the cost of the fine should double (and, for subsequent offences, the fines continue from where they left off). For example, the first offence would cost £1,000, second would be £2,000, third £4,000, and so on. If they then got their cars insured, but two years later forgot, the next fines would be £8,000, £16,000, £32,000 and so on.

I'm sure that uninsured cars are either sold at auction or crushed now, that should learn 'em.

Sorry, not my idea of a flood, a fair depth of standing water maybe, but water barely reaching the sills shouldn't be a problem for any car.

Just this thought on insurance, cost isn't everything: I'm sticking with LV for the Cherokee because the premium seems reasonable & just good people to deal with. I'll keep the Eldo with RS(?) again reasonable premium (didn't go up on transfer from the STS, although it's valued at 5 times as much), no upper age limit & excellent recovery service thrown in. The C15 costs almost as much as the other 2 put together (perhaps because it "lives" in London) but I couldn't face the trauma of finding alternative cover AND Chubb have the best recovery, bar none, covers any car I own &/or am driving - though I've not put that to the test. The Xantia's with e-sure (best quote by a long chalk) & they were really switched on about European use post-Brexit, but I find I'll have to write to them about claiming for a screen chip that Autoglass can't do, but my local man in Newton Abbot assures me he can.

My renewal letter arrived yesterday from Churchill stating a renewal premium for the Subaru of £629.28 not including foreign cover
Last year I paid £536.xx for the C5 including business use which I no longer need.
So back to Confused.com and Comparethemarket.com and the best acceptable quote I got was from the AA with a quote of £331.00 including foreign cover and the rest of the add ons being the same. Out of interest the Churchill quote on Confused.com was £541.xx !!! Crazy!!
I rang Churchill to let them know and they acknowledged that they could not compete with the AA quote so the deed is done. In addition to taking that quote I get a £20 voucher to spend in Halfords from Confused.com so effectively the insurance is costing me £311.00, a saving of £318.28 over my renewal quote!! It sure does pay to shop around!! :) :) :)

Ooh, I think I've got one of those somewhere. I'll have to hunt out the email. Hope it hasn't expired!

Did you ask Direct-Line Mick? They've beaten every other company for me over the last three years............with a bit of haggling.

No I didn't Eric, I had a run in with Direct Line when they were the insurers of a driver who drove into my daughter's parked Fiesta. They offered £350 for it as a write off when the cheapest comparable I could find on the market at the time was £950 so I told them to supply an equivalent replacement car, they of course suggested I should test the wind strength in a rather unpleasant way and we argued for nearly 3 weeks on a daily basis until I found an acceptable replacement for £700 and they coughed up!! More to get rid of me than anything I suspect, but as a result I'll never give them my business!! :o :-D

Bugger. Only 30 days to access the code and I'm well past that.

I guess a 'Halfrauds' voucher is the new 'freeby' the comparison sites are giving away for new policies seeing as Cinema tickets and meal vouchers are pretty much useless at present?
