Try this Peter, from a little bit of a blog about Loxley and KJ Motors at Bromley

I'd prefer it a Costa, I like their coffee more than Starbucks and they cater well for we vegans ;)

Happy memories of meals in Little Chefs back in their heyday when the girls were small :D

Mentioning meals in Little Chefs reminds me of a Sunday breakfast on the way to the Windrush Scatter when my daughter was 8. She did not want a 'childrens meal' and ordered an Early Starter much to the waiter's surprise. When he brought the meals to the table he looked at her and said 'If you can eat all that I'll swap your empty plate for a lolly!' She looked up at him and said "I'd rather keep the plate!". He was good to his word and after clearing the table he returned while we were finishing our coffee and presented her with the Early Starter plate which she still has 35 years later!! :)
(Having finished typing that I have realised that I believe I have already related that story on another thread so apologies for the repetition but there may be a different audience on this one so I'll post it anyway!! :-D )

and I'll throw a station from another part of the country from "Motor Industry magazine in January 1963". Looks nice and clean. It is described as Langstone Filling Station, but not sure exactly where it was. Possibly near Newport S.Wales or more likely Langstone in Hampshire near Havant, and Portsmouth which is where the January 1962 Austin A40 was first registered (YTP 805)

That might be what latterly became the Chidham Service Station. My father bought a camper van from them, though it had changed a bit from the photograph by then.
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

Thanks for that Neil. Coincidentally, I have never bought a new car but the nearest I came was a Victor 101 estate which I looked at in K J Motors and there is one in the window of that picture, although maybe not an estate, or it could of course be the one I looked at :o . I like the plate story :-D

The only time we have a cooked breakfast is when we are on holiday. We go to Yorkshire for a few days in September (not last year though) and we stay in the 'Skeeby' Travel Lodge near Scotch Corner. There was a Little Chef next door and one of the highlights of our trip was the cooked breakfast we had there.

Sadly. during the reconstruction of the A1M they moved the road and you could no longer access it from the A1 directly, you have to got to the roundabout, turn left and then left again onto a newly constructed road and in the meantime the Little chef was closed :(

We now have to go into Tesco in Catterick - not the same. :(

Eves' garage, Whitby. It is right next to the harbour and would flood in high spring tides.
These were to show the floodwater, for the Northern Echo. About 1964.
My dad worked for Eve's but at the shipyard further up the river.

Esso petrol. Dad wouldn't use it, claimed it was rubbish when the tide was in.

It is a nightmare. I don't go often now but park at my brother's place, intending to walk into town. Never do, just stay at his then drive home.
There is allegedly a park and ride thingy there now.

Returning to my National-Benzole and its successors theme I noticed from Wiki that BP who own the Brand, phased it out after a period of marketing it under the National Label with the wonderful Mercury Distinctive logo.

I read on wiki that the brand still persisted at some outlets In Shetland and the Isle of Wight....well couldn't resist a delve...

So when the google cameras passed by in September 2015 the signs were still up although not looking like it was much of a thriving business, no prices in the frame, pumps still there.

I bet those little brick boll***s have claimed a door or two!
My very last holiday with my parents (when about 16) was in Brighstone. I hired a Vespa 125 for the week, which kept me amused, exploring the island.
