Thanks Mick that would fit. The shape is less of a triangle closer up, and fits the Cleveland Globe spot-on. Being black and white and old the image is totally indistinct with lettering. Cleveland was a brand notable for its distribution in the North East but nothing to do with the "Cleveland" region of the UK, but Cleveland Ohio.

They did a fair line at the time, bearing in mind the current "worries" over E10 fuel, of Alcohol blend petrol.

Ran the '35 Rover on it while at college (near Warrington) in the late '60s. National Benzole was another.
The alleged alcohol seemed to make starting these old sods a tad easier.
Six gallons (≅27L) for £1 back then.

This was taken in 2008, well after ESSO's take over so whether this is just for show or a proper petrol dispensing station I don't know. Its in Cambridgeshire.

This is a good gallery of Cleveland in the UK. I think there must have been a rebranding by Esso at some point after acquisition and before they decided to ditch the Cleveland brand. Definitely not just a North East thing, as the gallery shows, Cleveland had stations all over the place and down as far as Devon. So when the "globe pumps" went out perhaps the Cleveland brand looked like this...

This is one of the "National Petrol" stable and one of the most iconic petrol stations in the UK before it became a "little Chef"

Another one dug up from Consett. Atkinson and Browell, at the corner of the PLAZA cinema as was in Consett. Looks like it was selling Esso Petrol.

and I'll throw a station from another part of the country from "Motor Industry magazine in January 1963". Looks nice and clean. It is described as Langstone Filling Station, but not sure exactly where it was. Possibly near Newport S.Wales or more likely Langstone in Hampshire near Havant, and Portsmouth which is where the January 1962 Austin A40 was first registered (YTP 805)

I remember this one in the '50s. Not to far from me. The Chinese Garage Beckenham.
