vin number for codes

Post by philip10001 »

hi,

Can anybody find out my key number code and the code needed for programming keys into the car please.

I understand my vin number can be used to get this info?

I am trying to add another remote fob and having no success whatsoever!!

Kind regards,

Phil.

You can only do this through a main dealer. Key-code info is not available otherwise.

Take some proof of ID like a driving licence, proof of vehicle ownership like your V5, and a utility bill that confirms you and your address. The dealer will be able to supply your key cutting code and your confidential customer code for a fee from £0 to about £25 tops.

£30 for me. And that was a couple of years ago.

Try another dealer - and then give that one a wide berth for any other business in future - like I said it depends on who you get and how unscrupulous they are. The normal charge seems to be about £20-25 tops.

I've found over the years that quite often the info you seek is scribbled down in the handbook / service book or behind the sun visor by some previous owner. A search might be worthwhile.

A good addition to the advice whether to buy a given used car...
...is there any rust?
...are the brakes good?
...will it steer in a straight line?
and, most important of all -
Spoiler: show
...Is there any money down the back of the seats?

You're not wrong Chris I've found many a pound in such places, back in my youth when preparing used cars I found £20 in two bob bits under the seat in a Sunbeam Rapier.
