106 diesel engine swap

Post by Hyde12 »

Hi
I've just fitted a saxo 1.5 engine to my Peugeot 106. It came with a Bosch pump as did my original engine. It will not start. No fuel at injectors.
I've concluded the new engine injection pump is imobilised!???
I'm going to re fit the original pump.
Am I correct in my assumption that the injection pump on the new engine is locked / immobilised!
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, I would think so... Does your 106 have a keypad immobiliser? What year is your 106? And what year was the Saxo donor?

My 1998 Series 1 petrol Saxo has a keypad immobiliser...

Is the pump armoured around the stop solenoid to prevent hotwiring?

An armoured pump is invariably fitted with an immobiliser...

You could consider swapping pumps from the original 106 engine to the Saxo donor engine - they should be similar enough and it will resolve any immobiliser issues...

Hi thanks for reply.
The car is a 2002 106 1.5 diesel. No keypad. But does have imobiliser. The new Citroen engine is the same age and pumps are identical Bosch units.

Yes My plan is to swap the pumps so the cars original one goes with the Citroen engine. What a pain!!!

Do you have access to the saxo you got the engine from? If so if you get the immobiliser box from it (located behind the glovebox) & a key from it you could fit the immo box to the 106 & use the chip in the key to get it started without having to swap pumps.

Unfortunately not. I purchased the engine off eBay from a Citroen mechanic. Bit annoyed as he could have just told me to swap pumps over before it was fitted!! Thank you for your help.

I once made the mistake of replacing a Lucas pump with a Bosch one on a BX - it wouldn't start, I eventually found it needed different injection pipes as the injection sequence is different between the two pumps. Went like a train eventually. I'm not suggesting that this is your problem but it might be worth a look to see if the pump has been changed.

Presumably the belt tension is correct, is the crankshaft pully tight?

I haven't touched the crankshaft pully only to turn the engine so all good there. Belt tension fine. But I'll try again with it tighter.
Like I said I've done these cam Belt s loads of times and never had this????

Didn't Jim report issues with dual-mass (shock-absorbing) crankshaft pulleys?
Could there be an issue there affect timing?

Great :) Delighted to hear all is now good :D

On the cambelt refitting, so easy to make that small error so don't beat yourself up about it ;)
