Xantia HDi Dash Lights
Hi Guys
Starting to rebuild the interior.
I’ve added an extra 3 bulb holders from an X1 dash pod. They include an icon to the left of the transponder which looks like the petrol flap (but leaving the flap open or filler cap off doesn’t actuate it), a dipstick that looks like oil level and water in fuel filter icon.
I noticed that the EML glows very, very lightly when it has gone out. Presumably a lack of shielding from the brightness of the fuel gauge light.
I have a video which I will upload a link to once uploaded.
It has some questions contained in it.

Re: Xantia HDi Dash Lights
The STOP light should be accompanied by another warning light to indicate what the problem is that's causing the STOP light to be illuminated Roger...
The STOP light is at the end of a diode 'OR' gate with several inputs so that any one or combination of other warning lights being on will light the STOP lamp...
Interesting on the light next to the transponder warning... I have an S2 pod around here somewhere and will take a look but to get to it I need to move Daffodil so it may not be quick

That's interesting Jim. There is the red dot on the temperature gauge but I am guessing you mean something other than that.CitroJim wrote: ↑14 Mar 2021, 17:27 The STOP light should be accompanied by another warning light to indicate what the problem is that's causing the STOP light to be illuminated Roger...

Got the interior largely built back up today so it no longer looks like a project inside.
It's fast becoming my favourite to drive.

Re: Xantia HDi Dash Lights
That's right - the STOP light should never appear on its own, but always accompanied by another warning.
That red light is the clue.
That red light is the clue.

Re: Xantia HDi Dash Lights
Faulty temperature sensor wiring?
Which would not be unrealistic...
The seatbelt pretensioner light flickered on again yesterday whilst the STOP light was on with the red dot under.
I thought the STOP and the red light were inextricably linked? Are they not?
It went off again. It was the passenger one last time.
I suppose I could just plug the Lexia in again but that wouldn’t explain why it is intermittent.
Unless, of course, it is because the fault is intermittent and the Lexia will no doubt report intermittent fault.

Re: Xantia HDi Dash Lights
The STOP light is switched on when any one of several important warnings are activated - eg low oil pressure, low coolant level, coolant over-temperature, hydraulic pressure low... Usually half-a-dozen of them, depending on the model. All will be listed in the Owner's Handbook.
Some other warnings are regarded as less critical (eg screenwasher fluid level) so are not wired into the STOP light.
As Jim said, each of the important warnings are wired to the STOP lamp via a diode apiece. This allows multiple sensors to trigger the light, but not to interfere with each other.

If I had have known this beforehand, Ibwiuld have probably checked some of the solder joints at the diodes just in case.
Thanks for the insight.

Re: Xantia HDi Dash Lights
As mentioned the stop light is on because of something, in this case it’s likely that the coolant is low, or the sensor for that is faulty. Are the radiator fans on as well?
Also the flashing dip stick light is because the oil level sensor thinks the oil level is wrong. I used to find that if the car was leaning to the right, ie the passenger side wheels are higher than the drivers side (on a curb for example), then the light would flash. Parking on the level it shouldn’t flash, unless the sensor is faulty. But bear in mind it will be taking a reading as you turn the key, so if you’ve just had the engine running the oil won’t be all in the sump yet.

The oil level sensor is not keen on modern synthetic oils either...

Re: Xantia HDi Dash Lights
Roger, as I had Daffodil out of her garage today I was able to look at an S2 instrument pod.... That little warning light next to the immobiliser is interesting... on mine - from an Exclusive HDi - it looks like a saloon car with something in the boot, roughly where the CD changer would be...
It might be a warning for something else mounted there but I cannot offer any thoughts... Had any Xantias had a DPF I'd have said it may have been a low Eolys fluid warning but that's as far as I can think today...
I shall continue to cogitate

Jim, if it is the one in the middle of a group of three lights (in the Rev counter) that light is to let you know a door is open (I still have an S2 owners handbook).

Re: Xantia HDi Dash Lights
I am such a donut i could not see the questions within the video, now when i turned the volume up i could hear them
As has been mentioned the flashing symbol is in fact the low level oil warning but as Dommo said if parked on an incline side to side it will flash, mine does it if as Dommo says parked with the passenger side on the pavement, will flash away until i drive off and get it back on the flat.
As Dommo also eluded to the Red dot lit up on the temp gauge with the STOP warning is associated with the A/C, i can get mine to bring both on and off at will.
Mk2 Xantia will engage the A/C but not light up the A/C engaged light on the button if the blower direction is set to demist ie the windscreen. The STOP warning and the Red dot on the temp gauge are linked, what it is telling you is that there is a problem with the ability for the fans to cool the engine, a sort of fail safe mode.
My guess is you have the blower setting to demist when you first start the car up and after a few miles etc you move it another setting and the warnings go off.
I can get the STOP and overheating lamp on even when the outside temp is -5 just by moving the heater setting to demist.
Easy and cheap way to test it, have the blower direction set to footwell before you put the key in and see if the warning lights are present once you turn the key, then move the blower setting to demist and see if they appear

Re: Xantia HDi Dash Lights
Odd. On XM I can have the AC on, and set flow to demist.
Warmed and dried air will demist instantly, and cold air can produce ice on the outside of the windscreen if its humid!
Could be the slightly later Xantia system was designed to prevent just that sort of thing.

No, it's not that one James, I know that one. This is a totally different symbol with no bulb fitted behind it. The door open light is of the shape of the car looking down upon it whereas this one is a side-on view of a saloon car with something in the boot...Hell Razor5543 wrote: ↑17 Mar 2021, 17:55 Jim, if it is the one in the middle of a group of three lights (in the Rev counter) that light is to let you know a door is open (I still have an S2 owners handbook).
I wonder if in some markets there was a fuel filler flap open warning?

Unfortunately, ServiceBox owner's handbooks doesn't include Xantia.
Someone here must have the correct book for the car, to identify that light.
