My daughter's boyfriend smashed the screen on her SAAB. Dealer wanted £1,000 to replace it.
The major chains wanted around £5~600.
She had it done for about £175, got a receipt for £350 that she made him pay.

He also lost his teeth and had a few days in hospital. Tried to kidnap her. She wasn't amused.
Oh my word. What a worrying story. Hope everything is alright.

I've araldited it this morning. Wishing now I had have used the Rain-X repair kit although I think superglue is thin enough to do the job.

Hopefully, it will stop it spreading anymore. I don't think I'll hold my breath though.

She's fine thanks, moved on. She doesn't suffer fools and no-one gets to hit her - she is far to fast for that.

Hope the Araldite works.

I had a Volvo 265 with a cracked screen, passenger side. Looked like a christmas tree.
Replaced the screen myself, cut one out of a car in a scrapyard. Wouldn't recommend it though. When I cleaned it after fitting it was scratched, someone using the pipers with no rubber in them :(
Took hours of polishing with a B&D+polishing mop and Autosol. There was always a slight 'lensing' ripple there afterwards.

The thought has crossed my mind if I could get one from Laddaw. The Sika Tack Move-it sealant is £40 alone then cutting the old screen out would not be fun. The the removal of old silicone presumably though I am not sure you have to remove it 100% rather probably just get it cut back as much as possible before cleaning and priming. Screen would probably cost £80 on top. Then some heavy duty suckers for lifting the screen (which weigh about 30kg typically). I imagine it's not fun.

Hope you're keeping well Steve.

I did it on a very hot day which made it easier - the adhesive was softer, cut through it with a very thin blade and put cardboard in to stop it reattaching.
Cleaned off all traces off the old adhesive, probably used petrol.
Reattached with black silicone, gave it a couple of days to cure.

I was younger and fitter then and handled the screens alone, wasn't difficult but had to be very careful aligning it.
All done outdoors, not recommended in this weather.

Keeping fine thanks Roger, as I trust you and Sylv are.

Point 5) ticked off.

Washers working now. Have since realised that I didn’t even need to remove the damned scuttle cover to replace the pipe.

Wish I’d have asked and waited patiently for an answer.

So working washers but broken screen!

MOT tomorrow. Just hoping it doesn’t spread whilst driving there or any more for that matter. Araldited the chips this morning so hopefully that will arrest some flexion. Find out soon enough.

It is what it is.

Roger, Watch out, the examiner may refuse to do MOT because the windscreen is an obvious fail waste of time and money

The cracks do not affect line of vision but perhaps they don’t need to. Only ever had stone chips.

When the top engine mount got ripped apart early last year, the engine moved forward on the offside by about 4”.

Is the part of the engine restraint missing a nut does anyone know? There seems to be a threaded hole in the bulkhead but certainly NO space to get a nut inserted? Feeling confused as it’s over a year ago.

Second photo shows what I assume to be an anti-vibration weight. Do I just need to araldite that onto the highlighted stud?

And finally the strut tops exhibit cracking to the rubber on the top and underside. But are they still OK? They look straight!

Roger, yes that is indeed what that weight is... It should just screw onto the highlighted stud... Don't araldite it on else you'll never be able to remove the engine mount again!

Holes in the strut top flange will be a fail...

There;s nothing to screw it in to, Jim! It just looks like rubber on the underside for the weight.

There are no holes in the strut tops just perished rubber at the moment.

Car failed today but only on a bit of welding that is required. I have an advisory on all the brake pipes and the windscreen. Hopefully, the araldite has bonded it together enough.

Cheers Colin. So pleased to finally be getting somewhere with it. I do admit that I spent £3 on washer pipe before the MOT against my better judgement. I said I wouldn't spend anything until I could be sure it was going to pass. In fairness, it only did just under 200 miles since 24th March. Sadly missed the MOT extension window by days last year. September MOT would have been far more conducive to getting your hands dirty in warmer weather.

Am getting my mate, the previous owner of the garage, to do the tiny bit of welding which is required. So job done within the next 10 working days. Will then re-MOT around July, August, September so if I ever have to do any jobs (or should I say when I have to) it will be in a warmer weather window.

Another bit to add to the beg, borrow or steal list then.

To think I saved this car from being scrapped in 2013 for £200 because it needed a clutch and that it was just sticking springs and I got 30k+ miles out of it before it actually went bang is quite something.

So having spent £500+ with all the trials and tribulations since JUST to get it back on the road again is a pretty painful and depressing thought.

What really upsets me more than anything is most of that cost is needless and the amount of hours I’ve invested, as you know, learning diagnostics via oscilloscope (and I’m still no expert) is beyond belief.

Despite this and the noisy turbo and slightly heavy steering it’s still a joy to drive on a run. The suspension is still supple. There is a slight hesitancy around max torque and in certain gears so I need to investigate the inlet air induction sensor and check for leaks in pipework.

I suspect the intercooler might have a leak somewhere because I did find a chunk of it inside the front valance in August. Luckily I have a spare.

That would be the icing on the cake if I can get the turbo quiet and full power.
