Xantia 109 HDi - a step closer!

Managed to get out for a soon as I had an essential journey to make.

Got the car up to 2000rpm and it shows 65mph on the clock.

Will fire up Lexia and check rev counter against engine parameters. I assume the Lexia revs will be 100% accurate.

So speedo is very slightly reading over which isn’t a bad thing. I think the rev counter is reading 35-50rpm lower than it should be.

Also, when I switch the ignition off the fuel gauge flicks up to max and back down against the stop pin. It’s irritatingly noisy.

So into the good news. I’ve fixed a seatbelt trigger issue and an airbag issue this evening. Just the usual under the seat brown connectors.

So now I have NO fault lights on the dash.

Tomorrow’s jobs:-

1) Will see if I can remove the window regulator at least to take note of what it looks like. I will try and recover the cable but I think it is all damaged beyond use.

2) Do a run with the missus and the Lexia to suss what adjustments need making to the Speedo and rev counter.

3) Try and get a nylon nut onto one of the top engine mounts that is positioned horizontal against the bulkhead. Looks like a knuckle stripper of a job.

4) Araldite one of the engine anti-vibration weights back on which snapped off (assuming I can find it).

5) Look at why the windscreen washers aren’t working (hopefully just empty!)

6) Try and ascertain if there is an air leak on the turbo delivery pipe or split intercooler. I can hear the turbo spin up quite loudly.

7) Try and find the fuse I dropped under the battery area.

8) Check resistance on passenger wing mirror NTC resistor and work out if it can be fixed with a cheap part rather than spending £18 at Citroen.

This is all in addition to a virtual bicycle ride up Mont Ventoux in France. Probably about 3 hours at a steady pace.

Nutrition is critical for going up Ventoux.. So a triple porridge sounds about right to me :)

I thought 109 was the official figure. I normally but 110 but I was sure it is 109.

Managed to crack the windscreen trying to get the scuttle panel off...

Wil araldite stop it spreading any further I wonder?

And all this because of a snapped washer tube.

I can’t actually see where the washer tube goes. I think it goes inside behind the dash somewhere.

It’s snapped just at the offside bonnet hinge.

Got some 2 part epoxy glue Gorilla glue so am going to abrade the surface of the glass maybe even lightly with a dremel, clean with IPA and then spread liberally across all sides pressing well in.

Fingers crossed.

Before yours spread Jim, had you tried to take any preventative action?

Grim news! I have four legs now that have spread.

I am thinking of abrading the surfaces either side of all the cracks with a dremel to try and give the epoxy something to bite into.

Really not sure which way to turn with this now. A new screen is probably £200 at least.

It will spread with heat/cold shrinkage regardless of if driven or not, just the way it works.
I think you need to take a different view point of the issue.
Forget about the windscreen, you know it will need replacing and it will fail the MOT in its current state, but the car does not have a current MOT so logically replacing it before will be pointless.
I would focus on getting it MOT ready mechanically, if it only fails on the windscreen then you knew that to start with so then you can worry about the screen, if you are going to use it then insurance cover may give you windscreen cover at a big discount

Very wise words, Colin.

Just noticed Amazon delivered the glue at 17:47, just before sunset. They never knock anymore. I could have got out there in the remaining daylight and got some on. Going have to go out tonight in the dark and have a crack at it! No pun intended.

Thing is. If I’d have gone out with the dremel as I’d intended to I’d have seen it arrive.

I know what you’re saying about the insurance but they do class it as a claim sadly. If I can get a cheap enough price, I’d just pay.

I even think you can do it yourself but I’d bet it’s a nail-biting job. I have seen one being done. The removal and cleaning up is the biggest job.

Try a small, independent screen fitter Roger.
My daughter's boyfriend smashed the screen on her SAAB. Dealer wanted £1,000 to replace it.
The major chains wanted around £5~600.
She had it done for about £175, got a receipt for £350 that she made him pay.


He also lost his teeth and had a few days in hospital. Tried to kidnap her. She wasn't amused.
