Citroen Dispatch; fault code P1442

Post by Galinirob »

Hi, I'm new here =;
2012 Dispatch L2H1 HDI 95.1997cc 98,000 miles VIN VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

After the fuel cooling tank needed replacing ( ploughing through deep puddle at high speed), my local garage replaced that, all was good.
But, on refilling my almost empty fuel tank, the 'Risk of Filter Clogging' appeared on the dash; with the warning triangle of death too...so, back to the garage who found this P1442 error code with "additive system low or adding impossible"
Took it to Citroen dealer following week as advised, diagnosed again (kerchang..£125 please) which resulted 'additive fuel pump fault out circuit, checked wiring and power supply all ok, recommend to replace pump/tank.'
the cost i'm quoted from Citroen is £672 (yikes :( )
I didn't get a detailed read out from the dealers (shame, I realised too late) but after doing the 2500 rpm trick on the last journey I made, the warnings no longer appear.
Will I need an Oelys refill/ new DPF/ or what?
Your advise and comments are very welcome , thanks :)

It's difficult to advise because if the pump is damaged - you may well have power, but it may not be operating properly - and as a result at some point, assisted regeneration may not be able to occur as time moves on and additional additive may no longer be added to the fuel tank. So if this is the case, then only natural regeneration will occur in future- and assuming you are doing long enough journeys for the exhaust temperature to reach about 550 °C instead of the 450 °C with assisted regeneration. If this isn't the case then clogging will rapidly occur. Once the filter gets to anywhere over 75% clogged, then even a forced regeneration may not have any effect assuming you had additive in the system to assist with this.

So although you may be able to drive, there's no telling whether the pump is actually doing its job internally.

Thanks for that Marc,
No more fault codes..for now
I haven't been doing a lot of driving cos of the national regime advise.
I did read that one can add the additive in small measured doses directly to the tank (manually) when refuelling...so next time I fill up, I'l add some.
Usually, I only drive long journeys (Greece twice a year) so reckon the DPF shouldn't be clogged as much as some!

I forgot to add, that the additive fluid level is not physically measured - it is estimated by the engine ECU and a warning message should be triggered on the display about this in plenty of time. If it thinks the fluid will run out before the next scheduled maintenance interval as shown on your remaining miles before next sue service, then the warning message is triggered.

If the fluid is allowed to run out, then damage will occur not only to the additive pump, but also to the particle filter in a short period of time.

Not recommended! I would never do that - as the quantity of additive is exactly measured and recorded by the ECU for the quantity of fuel put in the tank. Never manually put additive in the fuel tank.

The additive system needs refilling (pouch or reservoir) and the additive counter reset and fuel pump primed using a diagnostic device like Diagbox.
