C5 tourer suspension height

Post by Dunkah »

Hi all,
Can someone tell me what the suspension height should be on my 2008 c5 x7 tourer?
The measurement from the wheel centre to the arch is what I need I guess. The front looks a little lower than it should and the back a little higher than it should but I,m unsure if the back wants adjustment down a bit or the front wants adjustment up a bit.
Thanks in advance

Things are getting sensitive, when it comes to suspension/ride height :D
Only himself the stupid makes wrong, many are being confused by the clever :P

It's not something you should be worried about under normal conditions - the settings are set at the factory against the reference values. There is only a limited range of fine tuning that can be done with the diagnostic tool as the initial height settings are completed when the height sensors are attached. The fine tuning is only really necessary if there has been some manual adjustment at some time or work undertaken with the height sensor clamps have been removed and replaced.

There is an official suspension height calculation procedure to be used to set these up correctly, which at the end of the procedure provides you with values to be entered into Diagbox, which then makes the adjustments.

It's all in my illustrated post here:

Thanks Marc, I did see that thread but wasn’t totally sure if it was relevant to estate versions.
I’m just trying to cover all the bases as my car needs some suspension attention. It’s very hard at the back, I’ve been through a good few threads and it seems likely I need to do the accumulator spheres, not too much of an issue, just got a set of accumulators and I’ll tackle that job pretty soon, been there before, used to own a xantia hydractive...... but, reading threads has also opened my eyes to all sorts of other issues that can lead to overly stiff suspension like dog bones and tyre pressures and so on.
So as I said, was just looking for a bit more of a wholistic overview on the situation 👍

No worries - at least you have the guide should you need it.

With the Hydractive X7 you have 7 spheres used for normal comfort mode and the front centre and 2 rear centre spheres switched out when in sports mode. So you may also need to consider replacing the centre spheres at some stage too as these will have a bearing on the normal comfort setting.

I may have misquoted myself...... it’s the 3 centre shpheres I have ready to replace, not the corners, having heard that it’s the centre ones most likely to cause hard suspension. It’s definitely much harder at the back than the front but I plan to do all 3 anyway.
If that makes a big difference then I won’t worry about the ride height but if it’s still a little hard I may try adjustment of it just to see what bearing it has if anything. I had to adjust the ride height of my xantia a few years ago and I recall it did make a nice difference to the general ride of the car, I know the x7 is a different system but I’m not afraid to give things a go
