Servicebox request, Xantia X1 please

Post by ekjdm14 »

Hate to ask for a lookup as not been able to donate yet this year, but if admins don't mind please could we have some info?

We're looking into the possibility of swapping the engine/gearbox in Black ('95 X1 Xantia) in order to kill two birds with one stone (autobox needs a rebuild and we need a bit more towing grunt)

What we're after is diagrams of the pedal boxes and front subframes for both X1 TD manual and X1 D-auto to see how big the differences are, since I'm hoping to make it easily reversible due to the fact the D-auto is a pretty rare beasty and going back to her original sedate format would have to be viable. Thanks, Dan.

Dan, you're right, the automatic D is now exceedingly rare!

At a guess, the subframes will be identical and should have the drillings for the gear selector bellcrank pivot...

Swapping the pedal box should be fairly straightforward but I foresee a lot of disassembly being needed. Best done with the engine out and likely the subframe might need dropping too... The driver's seat, carpet and maybe even the dash might have to come out to do it...

If so, then I'd be tempted to renew the heater matrix as a precautionary measure...

Electrically, you'll have to re-wire the starter inhibit to fool it into thinking the 'box is in P or N..

I'm still at the guessing stage too Jim, really need to pull her out (sandwiched between the XUD 206 and caravan currently) and have a look at the subframe but if I can see on servicebox it'd be nice too. Pedal box is my main worry like you say it's likely a dash-out job. Far as I know she's on the original heater matrix though so could be a good excuse to PM that area. Carpets/seats are no bother, they were replaced with all black & leather a good while ago so I know they'll come out OK.

If it looks like anything non-reversible then it'll be off though, simply for the fact that last time of checking Black was one of two remaining D autos & the only one taxed.

Cheers :)
