Total transmission gear 8 vs Mobil gear oil FE 75w

Post by rvca »

With the change of the transmission shaft, I lost some oil and i need to correct the level.

Being a citroen c3 1.1cc from 2004, I couldn't find the screw that allows me to see the oil level, so I decided to replace it.

When I looked to the car manual for the original oil I realized that it was replaced by Total transmission gear 8 (Gl4 +).

However, when trying to buy it at the parts store where I am a customer, I was advised to buy the (PSA) Mobil gear oil FE 75w (see image attached) (B712310 / Gl4).

The question is.. which of the two will be the best for the gearbox?

Thank you

In my experience, all PSA gearboxes are very fussy about having the correct oil in them...

I would source the proper Total BV 75W/80 and not risk anything else...

Comma offer a good substitute...

The correct spec for the manual gear oil is Peugeot-Citroen B71 2330
Total Transmission 8 gear oil 75W80 GL-4 is what Citroen workshops have been using, often supplied to them in bulk
Total recently rechristened this as Total Traxium gear oil 75W80 GL-4
Both of these conform to the B71 2330 spec.
Any reliable brand of this spec should be good.

Thanks for the answers.

I am of the same opinion, and I was determined to buy the Total Transmission gear 8.

The store technician suggested this mobil made for the psa group ... and I was confused... Mainly because of this B712310 spec.
