So what is so ingenious about a single spoke steering wheel... :?:

If only there was an article to tell us. Well thanks Claus Ebberfeld and his "Via Retro Classics with a Scandinavian Flick" Blog we have.

..and its a visual Citroen steering wheel feast plus the piece de resistance, not from Citroen, but another automaker in one of their off the wall design moments which for me is their most interesting-looking incarnation.
I think Claus' article is an interesting read, and an interesting coffee table flick through the images at the least.

Interestingly, I've just replaced the 3-spoke 'sports' steering wheel on the BX with the "clumsy" one, that Claus obviously doesn't like.
I rather like its padded but solid-feeling flat centre, which is handy to lean on if you're trying to write something down (not whilst driving, obviously  ).

Name that Dashboard

Hopefully a simple taskette, rather than too much of a headscratcher.

No spoilers just lob the answer up :-D

On phone so no research facility, too fiddly, first guess no 1 Austin wheel from Montego/Maestro era. NO 2 Rover SDI guages possibly?

Well done Mick. Close enough, first one is from an Austin Metro (1985 brochure 1.0L/1.3L) on a facelift, and the second is indeed a Rover SDI (1982 brochure 2000/2300), both courtesy of another brochure walkthrough by Twin-cam on youtube :-D

Then I assume that is quite a high spec metro, maybe the Gold Vanden Plas? If so it is identical to one I bought my daughtet about 12 years ago!! :)

In the brochure that picture is captioned 1.0L/1.3 L Fascia Mick.....so a fairly bog standard one if they have captioned the images right. :-D

In that case the covering must be leyland vinyl while it looks leathery to me. Looking closer though there is no rev counter on the left so it must be a low spec. Considering I had a Rover SDI 2300 SE (upgraded to 2600 when I blew up the 2300 :-D ) i am surprised how long it took me to recognise that one!!

The brochure for that Rover SDI was 1982 and the Metro 1985.

If you can put up with old Twin-Cam, the good thing is you literally go through the full brochure. Apart from on Vauxpedia, many of the car brochures images on the net just have the front page often someone selling them on e-bay.

These were the two brochures
1982 Austin Rover Brochure Rover SDi
1985 Austin Rover Brochure Metro
