Grand C4 Picasso battery replacement

Post by Eddie1970 »

Hey guys, I've done a search and surprisingly couldn't find a topic on main battery replacement. There must be one.... Surely?

Anyway, my battery is on its last legs (50% ish and stop /start not kicking in), a decent cold spell will probably see it off with me working permanent night shift and forever starting it in the dark!

I've sourced a battery for £93, correct spec, size, cca to suit the stop /start system.

I wanna change it myself but just read something for the car system needing to be registered with the new battery for it to function properly!
Is this true for a 2017 grand C4 Picasso 1.6 blue HDI flair model? Or can I just go ahead and swap the batteries over?

Any info or tips greatly appreciated.

Cheers 🍻

These cars have a voltage maintainer and a battery charge status unit, so the battery (probably an AGM battery) must be of the same level. If the battery is t he same specifcation as the previous one one it should be fine but must be the correct level (L1, L2 or L3).

If you pop your VIN up I should be able to advise on the correct specs.

But do follow the guidance here for replacement or you could end up with electrical issues.

Cheers GMAB, the vin is
VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Hi again, just double checked the battery and it's L3, so identical to the one I've found online.

Just to confirm the procedure cos it looks a bit long winded :-

1) open bonnet and drivers window, keep doors closed but not locked, take fob away 3+ metres.

2) Wait 5 mins, remove battery holding bracket, disconnect +ve, slide battery forwards, then disconnect -ve. (don't let it touch terminal), and replace battery on stand.

3) Reconnect - ve, slide battery back, reconnect +ve, replace holding bracket, wait a further 3 mins.

4) Turn on side lights through open window, insert fob into reader, press st/St. (no pedals)

5) Press st/st again to switch off ignition, then remove fob, lock doors using handle or fob.

6) Unlock doors using handle or fob then start engine properly, checking for faults, switch off sidelights.

** my car tends to auto lock if I walk away with the key after about 30 seconds. Will this be prevented with the bonnet open, or will I have to switch this facility off in vehicle settings?

Thanks, Eddie.

9811722280 is the part for the battery - you need a L3 EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) 760A/70AH for the Stop & Start system fitted to your car.

At (4), when you have started the ignition only, wait 1 minute with it in this state on your model to allow electrical systems to reinitialise before switching off ignition. Then proceed with (5).

After (5) you are just testing that the locking and unlocking is working - so no need to wait. Just unlock then go in and reconfigure your options / customised settings in the head unit.

Stop & Start may not work for a while as the Battery Charge Status Unit will need to 'calibrate' as it measures the battery status at rest overnight.

No worries, just make sure you stick to the timings as it gives the various system ECUs time to shut down and save their data. Just be sure to watch the terminals don't short and don't connect them up the wrong was as somebody did recently resulting in blown boards.

How did you get on? I "think" I'm in need of a new battery.

I know this is an old topic, but hoping someone will see the post.

I'm about to change the 8.5 year old battery on my Grand C4 Picasso 120HDi Blue and am going to be putting in a Yusa YBX9096 battery (seemed to be recommended by a few).

Is the reprogramming / recalibration compulsory or only needed in some circumstances?

Your battery should be the same type and the same capacity (as a minimum) as the original battery. Your vehicle has a battery charge status unit that has the battery data stored, which in turn informs the BSI to fine tune energy management strategies. If you don't know the original specification or type, the pop your VIN up and I'll advise. This is very important for vehicles with Stop Start technology.

Hi GiveMeABreak,

Thank you for your kind offer to help. Apologies for taking so long to reply - have had a couple of family emergencies.

My VIN is:
VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

It also has: "760 EN AGM S" on the tyre pressure sticker on the door pillar.

The battery I had been looking at is the YUASA 096 9000 series but am equally open to any other suggestions.

Once I put the correct battery in, do I need to follow the procedure about leaving a window open, turning on the side lights through the window etc, or will the car recognise the new battery and adjust things anyway?

Many thanks

Tony

Ok, so yes, you need the following specification battery and it must be an AGM type:

70AH-760A-AGM

BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

You will have to reinitialise electric window anti-pinch stops afterwards.

Thank you Marc for taking the time to check the battery. It looks like the Yuasa YBX9096 is correct.

Thank you also for confirming the BSI reset requirement too.

Just been reading up on how to reinitialise the electric window anti-pinch stops - it looks like for each window you get it to the bottom, then press and hold down for 10 seconds. Then you get it to the top and then press up for 10 seconds. Does this sound about right?

Thanks

Hi Tony, no, just lower each window fully, then don't use the auto one-touch raise, but in turn, using the first position on the window switch raise it manually until it reaches the top and won't go any more, then hold a few seconds again at the first position until you hear a slight click - job done.
