Rearview Mirror - Spontaneous crack

Post by Andle »

2007 Picasso xsara 1.6 Hdi N68

Pure curiosity,

Is it just me - or has anyone experienced the glass/mirror just crack/break for no apparent reason over time?

What causes this - and whats the most effective fix that looks stock?

Can the glass/mirror be swapped out?

The internal rear view mirror? No, that's a first on me - may be a defective mirror or has a bad knock that has created a hairline crack that has got worse with travelling vibration.

I need to replace the glass/mirror.

Can anyone help with how to open the casing to do it?

How can this be fixed?

Are you talking about the interior rear view mirror mounted on the windscreen or one of the door mirrors?

The one in the middle of the front windscreen - that you use to see whats directly to your rear.

Not the wing mirrors - the rearview one.

Part number is: 8153LH cost from Citroen new: £73.84

You can find second hand ones though a lot of ones on ebay have overseas shipping charges that mean it will cost as much as buying a new one from Citroen.

You could just buy a generic one of course.

Does your car have a rear view camera? If not, you might consider a clip-over mirror assembly incorporating a rear view camera.

No rear view cameras on a Xsara Picasso. I get the impression he's breaking the car for parts Paul, not repairing it.

How on earth do I remove part 11 - the anchor bit that glues to the windscreen?

Erm, you don't. It is securely bonded to the windscreen. All replacement windscreens (for vehicles with rear view mirrors) come with the anchor already in place. Item 11 (in the diagram) looks to me like the slide clip that marries up to the windscreen anchor.

Yep i's the slide clip I am talking about. The bit that is glued to the windshield, that the arm of the rearview mirror slides on to.

How do I remove it?
