MK1 C4 Picasso Fuel Door

My fuel door doesn't open when I push the button on the dash until I get out and give the door a couple of thumps and then it opens as soon as I hit the button again.

I've cleaned what I can from the outside and sprayed with WD40 but no change.

Is access to the mechanism through the NSR wheel arch liner? I've stripped the trim out of the boot but can't seem to get access from there.

It's getting embarrassing now when I go to fuel up and have to get out and thump the car and go back to press the button :rofl2:

On doing some more looking about the interwebs I came across this video, makes sense.

Could the actual cause of this issue be the fuel tank breather blocked causing a vacuum as you use the fuel?

Best to treat the issue rather than the symptom IMO
