Hi All
Just fitting a timing belt to a mates 406 estate, I noticed when I started it it doesnt turn over very fast, He says it has always been like that.
The starter doesn't look original and I am just wondering if it is the correct number of teeth on the pinion.
It has 12 teeth and I would like to know what the original one was.

Can't help directly but there have been a few threads about the number of teeth on a starter pinion that you might want to read.

Re: Starter Pinion
I can't help you Steve, they don't provide the number of teeth and even with the VIN, there can be a multitude of brands and types fitted to a vehicle. There are 16 different possibilities for this VIN - from Bosch to Paris Rhone to Mitsubishi brands, so it is normal practice to check the old one against a new one for specifics. I can tell you that the old PSA part number (5802M3) has been superseded with a different part number: 9827007180. So this should help you a little.Steve Walsh wrote: ↑21 Jan 2021, 14:34 Hi All

Re: Starter Pinion
Thanks very much Marc
I have had a search around in my mates garage and found an old Mitsubishi one in pieces that probably came off this car, It has 13 teeth and the current one has 12, Not sure if that would make much difference, But my mate has been to the breakers and come back with another with 13 teeth
Tomorrows job now, Timing belt all done so not much to finish it off
Cheers for all the help you give, now and in the past. It is very much appreciated.

Re: Starter Pinion
I think the teeth are important Steve and possibly why the 12 toothed one has not been operating properly....

Re: Starter Pinion
If the original is with 12 teeth, and given that the modulus should be the same, the 13 teeth pinion should not fit into the same base holes.
