Air Conditioning Failure

Post by Cit fan 151 »

The air conditioner on our C5 X7 stopped working yesterday. This has happened before and when the car is next started, the problem resolves itself. It seems this time though, the problem is more permanent, as the car has been started a number of times, but it did not resolve it.

When selecting/deselecting the air conditioner, there is no change in sound that would indicate the compressor is cutting in or out. The fans still work but only pump in hot air, when the ambient temperature outside is hot.

Maybe have the system re-gassed, before making any expensive investigations.
What you describe is a common low-gas symptom.

Yes, get the gas checked. Bar that it could be the compressor clutch failing, like mine did, which can often be replaced quite cheaply.

Yes, it was the compressor clutch that failed. Dealer suggested replacing compressor and condenser, but I am investigating whether just clutch can be changed. Compressor is PE-9800849780

Thank you cxmaniac. When I enter the details of our 2012 HDI 3.0L saloon in that site, it indicates the clutch does not fit our car. When I enter the details of the 2010 HDI 3.0L, it also indicates the clutch does not fit?

I took a chance and it paid off, they don't seem to list it as Citroen don't have a part number for it.
It fits the Sanden SD7 compressor.

Is this new clutch an easy fit? What is the procedure? Mines been noisy a while and been spraying with duck oil to keep it quiet.
