Re: TUD5 timing belt
For a cold start, the engine speed is too low. Maybe the fast idle thermo valve needs checking. Also I'd want to check that all four glowplugs are working.

Re: TUD5 timing belt
The car in the video is not mine but mine idles with the same speed all the time around 850 rpm, pump doesnt have a fast idle cable, the waxstat on thermostat housing is blanked off. On the saxerience forum i have been told that this is normal and this engine doesnt need a waxstat

I replaced four glowplugs 2 weeks ago, because i found two of the old ones were faulty, they were all working i checked them out of curiosity when new

Re: TUD5 timing belt
Before you tensioned the new belt did you slacken off the bolts on the pump & camshaft pulleys (if fitted)? If you dont slacken them to allow them to ‘float’ you can actually knock the timing out when you tension the belt.

Re: TUD5 timing belt
Maybe someone has fitted a different fuel pump. Saxo's can be fitted with either a Lucas pump or a Bosch but both have fast idle cables giving a fast idle speed setting of 1050rpm. Normal idle speed drops to 825rpm. My Saxo is fitted with a Lucas pump and the fast idle cable is marked with the arrow.Jonathancilia wrote: 28 Dec 2020, 09:59 mine idles with the same speed all the time around 850 rpm, pump doesnt have a fast idle cable, the waxstat on thermostat housing is blanked off.

Re: TUD5 timing belt
I did it! My own mistake, i bitten the bullet and disassembled everything again, pump was retarded, now i put everything back together and all the vernier bolts are in the centre of their holes. It runs sweet as a nut and no more smoke. Im a happpy guy, learnt alot from my mistake here. Thanks alot for the help guys you are awesome

Re: TUD5 timing belt
Well done, happy days. It's very easy to be 1/2 a tooth out on the pump and then it's a guess which to go. I mentioned earlier but on an IDI I always mark the old belt and pulleys with a white paint pen then transpose the marks onto the new belt. This way you know you've got the correct number of teeth between the cam, crank and fuel pump.

Re: TUD5 timing belt
Yes - well done, but still a puzzle as to why your pump doesn't have a fast-idle lever

Re: TUD5 timing belt
Yes i cant work out that, on the saxo forum i have been told that the bosch pump is normal for it to dont have the fast idle cable. Infact the waxstat is blocked off on many engines, i went to adjust it ince only to find no cable

Re: TUD5 timing belt
I have been told that bosch pump dont have a fast idle cable from factory, only lucas ones have, i would like to have abit of a higher idle when cold but i think irs not possible to fit because its blocked off. Anyway this engine doesnt have any problem when cold its very low mileage, only 109k kilometres. And solid compression, starts instantly when i turn key from cold.

Re: TUD5 timing belt
As I said, I don't have a Bosch pump. Mine is the Lucas. However, the manual for the Saxo clearly shows a photo of the Bosch (with its fast-idle cable) and a description of how to adjust the fast-idle.Jonathancilia wrote: 28 Dec 2020, 14:38 I have been told that bosch pump dont have a fast idle cable from factory, only lucas ones have,
