Good point Neil, Hertfordshire Depot has a pair of Marsh Harriers which may well be equally dodgy! Glad you reminded me of that!

We had a kestrel plonk itself on the bird feeder and scared all the little birds away this afternoon. We have had a regular female Dendrocopos major pecking at the food though - a delight to see

Excellent bobins, we only ever get the common or garden green ones in our bird restaurant! Sadly the area has recently been invaded by a small flock of parakeets and so we don't even see them now.

Hands up if you would like a set of most likely pre mid 1960's temporary traffic lights with tripods made by Forest City Manchester. Pre mid 60's possibly because they are only Red and Green. I like the word Stop on the red light.

One distinct memory is when we came across a set that took ages to change during track lifting work on the old Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway... I distinctly remember dad going ballistic at Beeching and his infamous axe whilst we waited an age for the lights to change... 'Had it not been for Beeching we'd not be here waiting for these bloody lights to change!!!'

Over half a century ago now but the memory remains strong...

More Street furniture, more lights. Don't know if they are wired up but I suspect these may be a different type of lighting relic. There are a few around that bit of Seaton Sluice. This is all the information I have.

Nice Is that lamp standard made by the Webb Lamp Co. of Birmingham? It's a little indistinct on my screen...

Once, when in Budapest I was intrigued to see a street in the old part of the city was gas lit using similar lamp standards...

Gas street lights employing double mantles cast a gorgeous soft light...

This brings back memories of night fishing with a Tilley lamp for illumination and holidays in caravans with gas lighting...

The first touring 'van we had when our kids were little still had one gas lamp... Not only did it give a lovely light but it was a source of warmth on a chilly evening... Two for the price of one!
